Okay so I read this about breastmilk, that drinking it can help get over being sick or something.

My DD2 is having non stop diarrhea since last night. She won't drink or eat anything. I gave her some anti diarrhea medicine but had to force it in her (it's mint flavored which apparently she doesn't like!) It hasn't worked and I really don't want to have to wait in the ER at the Naval Hospital. I have 4 oz of pumped BM in the fridge from 2 days ago (I was so engorged I had to pump after BFing) Should I try giving her that to see if it helps? If she's still having diarrhea tomorrow I'm gonna try and get an appt (or have to suck it up and wait at the ER).
She has barely eaten anything, even though I gave her Lucky Charms which she loves. She also has had two small cups of milk. Every diaper she has had today has been filled with diarrhea so much that she has gone through a few pairs of shorts as well. It's not like I don't change her right away either! It hurts her so much she entire diaper area is bright red and I've been putting diaper rash cream on her like crazy! I feel so bad for her!

So do you think if I give her the BM that it'll help her get over this faster? And since I have a whole freezer full I can always defrost some and give it to her too.

:lurk:

My kids had a pretty bad stomach virus a couple months ago. I found that cutting out milk all together helped... it actually can make it worse. I'm not sure about breast milk since its different than cows milk. In my opinion I dont think it would hurt, if she will take it. Also, if you can get her to drink Pedialite that will help balance her electrolytes. Other than that, dont push her to eat. As long as you can get some liquid in her (h20 is preferred, Pedialite... also avoid juices as they can also cause looseness like the Milk). If she does want something make sure they are bland foods. Rice, Bananas, crackers, things like that.

Hang in there. Its a nasty bug, but it will eventually pass Smile

I actually looked at a few websites, because I hadn't ever considered that.. .of course I never had that much milk stored up either. I know the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) is really good for being mild on a stomach with that much turmoil going on... which is pretty much what Kier was saying. I also would try pedialyte.. or if pediasure might be tolerated, it has lots of vitamins too. I'm curious to know if BM does in fact help, too... Let us know if you try it! Smile

I got her to eat some of a sandwich (PB&J) but she still won't really eat or drink anything. I tried banana earlier and she took one little bite and she has eaten a few crackers (okay just half of a bunch Lol But I think I'll try it before her bath. She has been in so much pain today it makes me sad!

Giving her your breast milk isn't going to harm her in any way at all, so it would be worth a try. Breast milk does have a lot of antioxidants and other immune building stuff in it, which of course is why it's so good for our babies.

Lol well I gave her some BM in a cup and she was drinking it and as soon as I said "Ooh is it good? Is it yummy?" she stopped and started making a choking noise (that's her way of saying it's gross!!) Lol but she did get some in her.

(sigh) however, I gave her a bath and she has such a bad diaper rash she wouldn't even sit down in it. After her bath I tried putting BM on her rash (I read that can help too) and she screamed and said "NO NO NO NO" so I just put cream on her. Lol she's so tired and everything I didn't want to try and force her to do it.

Ah and Desmond has now had about 4 poop diapers in a row and I'm starting to worry he caught what she has. So I also have to look out for DD1 getting it especially since she still has school. Gah hope it passes all of us!

Well, DD2 seems to be doing a lot better. Des hasn't had a poopie diaper in about 15 hours (which is good because I think that'll rule out diarrhea) and DD1 hasn't been complaining about her stomach hurting. And I feel great (just tired). Not sure if any of the BM helped or if it was just a 24 hour bug. But she's over it (I hope!) and I'm glad. Smile
