scary day today...

Heidi fell down the stairs... She's absolutely fine, but scary...

I got home from taking the big three kids to school, and there was a note from my husband saying that Heidi had fallen down the stairs, and that they were at the hospital. His truck was still here, so I knew he had taken an ambulance so that worried me more. I called the hospital to double check which one he went to, and I was told that he had just gone through triage and was in the waiting room. When I heard he was in the waiting room, I was able to calm down because I knew it couldn't be that serious. When I got to the hospital, my husband was standing holding her in the hallway, and Heidi could see me. She started smiling, jumping in his arms and waving. Then I completely relaxed because I knew she was fine. She has a big welt on her forehead, and a bruise on her back, but luckily my kids were sloppy this morning, and didn't pick up the jackets that fell on the floor on their way out the door, so she landed on those instead of the concrete floor. The gate at the top of the stairs was closed, but not clicked in quite properly, so when she bum scooted over to the gate, and pushed, it opened and down she went. My husband said he was running as quickly as he could but just couldn't get to her in time.

So in the end, she is fine, we are watching her closely, but it was definitely a scary day.

WOW! That sounds horrifically scary!!! I got chills just reading that!! I'm so glad she came away relatively unharmed. Luckily these kids are tough!

How scary! I am so glad she is okay other than a welt and bruise.

How's she going now? And how are you?

omg how scary for everyone. I can't imagine the time between seeing the note and finding out they were in waiting room for you.

Glad she's ok

Heidi is in perfect health! She had a tiny (about the size of a pencil eraser) red dot on her forehead yesterday, and she has no marks at all today. Since she bum scoots, when she reached forward, she tipped over head first, so she is very lucky.

I am also recovered. Seeing her smiling and bouncing in my husband's arms when I arrived at the hospital was pretty much all it took to really calm me since in that moment I could see that she was physically ok, and she clearly recognized me.

We were diligent with the gates before, but now we are a little crazy making sure they are all properly closed and locked!

We also spent some time working on stairs today.. but at this point she doesn't yet understand them. We have a split level house, so lots of stairs, so we will keep working to make her familiar with how they work and how to get up and down them safely, but for now gates it is!! Before this I was a bit frustrated with always having to open and close gates since two of my other three can't do them, but now I don't mind at all!
