We went into the hospital last night and had our little girl at 9:30pm. She was 6lbs 14oz, and we have named her Heidi Rose. Home from the hospital this morning and doing well so far!!
Starting to get a tiny bit settled in now, so here is the story!!
Thursday morning, I dropped off my two boys at preschool, and my daughter and I just came home and played games. I felt a difference in the contractions, since I'd been having constant Braxton-Hicks for weeeeeeks, but I didn't want to think to hard because I didn't want to be disappointed. So I just decided to continue on my day. Picked up the boys from preschool and we had a quick lunch, and went to get their yearly photos taken at the photo studio since I'd already made the appointment. James was at a funeral, and I couldn't get ahold of him since he was a pallbearer, but I texted him while we were getting the pictures done, and he came and joined us once the funeral was over.
Once we got home, I was convinced that we were on our way to a baby, but since I wasn't in pain I figured we might as well just keep things low-key, so all the kids and James had naps, and I packed up all their stuff to head to friends houses. All three got picked up around 5, and we headed for the hospital!!
Traffic was horrible, so we didn't get to the L&D floor until 6 and actually walked in with two other ladies who were coming in at the same time. Because it was busy and I was walking and not in a wheel chair, the nurse was going to send me home, but since my doctor was on his way anyways for another mum, they let me stay, but gave me a super crappy room. Doctor was late, so the nurse decided to check and at 7 I was three cm. Then there was the nurse change, so the new nurse came in, and we were chatting and going through paperwork and I was having contractions about every 5 minutes. Since I figured we had time, and I was managing, there was no talk of medication. Lots more talk and paperwork to figure out since my husband wanted to take the placenta for a traditional ceremony (he is First Nations). My doctor arrived closer to 8, and checked me at that time. I was thinking if I have been having this many contractions and they were starting to get quite strong, I had better be more than 3, and when he checked I was 9cm!!! So they decided I wasn't going home!!
Just after 9, I started pushing, and my doctor was so awesome quiding and talking and helping me push at the right times and slowly so that the baby was progressing, but giving my body time too. Baby was born at 9:38pm, and it was funny because she was crying when only her head was out!!
She was placed right up on me, and the doctor waited until the cord had stopped pulsing and then James cut the cord. She took to nursing immediately, and we haven't looked back since!! So, no drugs, no stiches or tears, and really "easy" birth.
When the doctor came the next morning, he discharged us, but we had to wait for the hearing test, and the blood tests. Our daughter arrived at 9, and my husband and her went home, got our car seat and clothes for Heidi to wear home (since we didn't know if we were having a boy or girl, we hadn't really packed anything other than yellow.)
I think we got to go quickly because there were absolutely no complications... no medication at all, no worries about Heidi or nursing or anything else. So when the doctor offered the chance to go home, we jumped on it!!
Hopefully we will continue on with the smooth road, but I'm thinking that once my little boys come back home tomorrow or Monday, it is going to get exciting!!
Off for a nap now!!
