Anyone have cats?

We have one...and she has found her way into the crib.:mad: We do have the crib mattress down, but it is still covered in the plastic it came in. I've heard all the horror stories about how cats like the snuggle with the babies because they are warm and all that.
We did register for a crib netting that will go over the crib(it was only $10), but I really really really dislike the idea of that. And I also feel terrible at the idea of having to lock the cat out of our bedroom especially at night, because she sleeps in with us and I don't want her to feel like she has done something wrong...yeah yeah i'm a sap. LOL
So now, i'm kind of at a loss as to what to do to keep her out once baby comes. Any ideas? :help1:

I am with you girl. I have three cats well technically they are kittens. They will be about one year old once the baby gets here in April. They are cats but act like humans and are so affectionate. We don't let the kitties in the babies room so when the baby sleeps in his crib we wont have any problems hopefully. But in the beginning when we first bring home the baby, we are most likely going to keep the baby in our room in a bassinet. And our kitties always sleep in our room. So yeah I am trying to figure out how to let both the baby and kitties stay in our room but keep the kitties from getting into the bassinet. I don't want to kick the cats out of our room and make them feel like they have done something wrong. I just don't know what to do either?

Lurking... I've heard it suggested to put aluminum foil in the crib (before baby, obviously) because cats don't like it. They'll jump in, find a ton of foil, and learn not to try, apparently. Not sure if it works, because our cats stay away from the crying, kicking, bundles of joy.

Hmm, maybe we'll try the foil thing. Thanks! I was hoping, that once the baby came and was in the crib, she would just stay away, but I think thats wishful thinking at this point. ha!
I asked a friend about it that grew up with cats and her sister had a baby, but she said the cats left the crib alone so she didn't have any advice.

I like the foil idea! Other than that, I don't have any ideas, but I hope that you get it figured out!

Our cat has never been one to be super interested in babies. I think by now she knows what they turn into... :lol: She will sniff them sometimes but nothing else.
I do know someone whose cat would jump in the crib or on the changing table; she just made sure to keep the cat out of the room when baby was in there but I know you don't want to do that. I've really never heard of a cat actually smothering a baby... I'd say just feel it out when baby is born; see how much the cat is interested and go from there.

Funny, people usually talk about dogs so this is a good one! I have a cat that we got when he was 6 weeks and he bonded with me and SO like CRAZY, he legit thinks he is our baby, he will cry (meow) when we are not near him or if we are upstairs and he is downstairs he will yell, we can let him outside and we can call him and he will come, he is our "first born" as we say =P I love him to death and would NEVER be able to shut him out of the room or get rid of him! I was also worried about the baby stuff, not sure as to what to do yet but my best bet is to do as it comes, he is not the biggest snuggler anyway and scares pretty easy with noises so I hope Lilly's crying and noises will keep him away! he has also gotten into the crib a few times but I let him for the fact that he can get his nosy-ness out of the way! and by the time baby is here hopefully he will be bored of the crib (he doesn't sleep in it or anything)

My cat would be gone, if she ever did that. I am so aggravated by her right now.. LOL She's a ragdoll and she sheds like crazy, especially right now!! She's shedding her summer coat and getting her winter coat (which is mostly in). I told DH if I didn't love her so much I'd give her away. I also told him if she ever does anything crazy to baby or baby's things, she'd be gone LOL I hope she doesn't get into the crib once it's set up. I like the foil idea though.. sounds like something easy to try!

Well, I can't give much advice as we have never let our cat into our bedrooms-DH dislikes animals so that was the agreement when we got the cat in the first place. We actually have a gate at the top of our stairs so DD won't fall down and the cat can't jump over the gate so he can't even come upstairs, which is fine since I am usually downstairs in the kitchen/living room and DH is usually upstairs in the study. I have to say that now that I have one kid with a second on the way, I kind of wish we didn't have the cat-I am too busy to give him much attention and he is kind of just one more chore to take care of. DD loves him though so I am glad she can play with him.
