Appt follow up.. (XP)

So we're 2 weeks and 2 days old today.. Here's the stats..

4/10 (Wed - Birth day) he was 6.12
4/16 (Tuesday - Home appt) he was 6.02
4/17 (Wednesday - Pedi office) he was 6.02
4/24 (Wednesday - Pedi office) - he was 6.06

4/26 (Today) - he was 6.08

We're up 2 ounces! :clappy: That's an ounce a day which they seem to be pretty ok with! We do go back on Tuesday for another weight check.. he's still below birth weight and they want him back there sooner than later.

At the suggestion of the nurse practitioner, DH and I went and bought him some new caps, gloves and socks. She said he burns calories when he has to fight to stay warm so we're going to try to cover as much as possible to keep him from fighting to stay warm.

On a side note, he's only in the 5th percentile in weight. COMPLETELY opposite from DD who was always in the 75th percentile range for the first year! Lol She was a chunker!

That is great that he is gaining!! Just remember he was a bit early, might take a little bit for him to catch up!

Where do you live again? Is it cold there? It is starting to warm up here in Texas. Do they still need all the clothes (caps, socks, etc) in warm environments? Or is it just bc its cold where you live?

That's what they keep saying in the office.. "He was a late term preemie so it's gonna take him some time and a little bit of effort to get back to his birth weight." They say that every time, no matter who we see! lol..

We're in Kansas City (Missouri). It's unseasonably cold, yes. Highs have been in the 40's and 50's. Normally we're in the upper 70's by now! :annoyed: She had mentioned the hats and socks will help him not have to fight as hard to stay warm. We're definitely putting all those blankets to use, too. Smile

Yeah for weight gain! (I am giggling over your version of "unseasonably cold").

So glad he's gaining! Good job Bram, keep it up!!!

LOL Cristan. Me too. We've had like 3 snowstorms since Reid was born (although in fairness it has been in the 60's for the past two days.)

Elizabeth - for the first couple of days I was careful about keeping Reid's hat and whatnot on even inside where it is relatively warm. They say to give tiny blnewborns one more light cotton layer than you would wear yourself, so I had him in a onesie and then footie pajamas and a hat. Now that he's a little older I just dress him how I would be comfortable. So if I'm in sweats and a sweat shirt, he's in a warm fleece sleeper. If I'm in short sleeves and light cotton yoga pants, he is in a light cotton sleeper. He only wears the hat now when we go outside and only if its cool/cold. Hope that helps!

Thanks Alissa, that helps!

The weather has been strange all over the country this year. Texas is having these large temp swings which is not characteristic for this time of year. It will be in the 30's-40's in the morning and then like 70'-80's by afternoon. Everyone is sick and none can get better. Sucks.

We did the hat for the first few weeks at night because infants cannot control their temps and the head is the biggest area for heat loss they told us. Rylee hated it and literally within minutes would be squirming in the cosleeper to get it off her head lol. Then we would worry it was in there and going to hurt her.

Adriana do you swaddle tightly? I am just thinking of my kids and their squirming and the amount of calories it probably burns. We use swaddle me sacks and the miracle blanket which we love. A friend has a similar snuggle bunny or something that work so much better than a swaddle blanket. The grunting and fussing kill me so it helps with those sounds all night too

We do, yes. Smile It's funny because if we don't, like you said, all the little grunt noises are endless. He LOOOOOVES being swaddled!! If he eats and then is immediately swaddled he's a VERY happy boy! Smile

Reid is a little escape artist. I've got the Halo Swaddle Sacks with Velcro, and he still manages to wiggle his arms free most of the time. I still reswaddle him every time because I don't want his startle reflex to kick in and wake him up when I'm laying him down, but whenever I go back in there, his little hands are out. When it comes to sleep and comfort measures, he is so different from his brother. Figures, right? I thought being a BTDT mom would make this time around a piece of cake. Nope; I can basically use my memories of what worked for T as a template for what not to do this time. Lol

Alissa DD got out of all swaddle so easily except the miracle blanket. Best money we ever spent and it ripped so we got a new one for Rylee. It was a life saver with DD because her movements woke her right up and it was hell!!!

I'm probably going to jinx myself but this little guy is so amazing.. so different than Liliana! He's a little lover.. snuggler.. no spitting.. no colic.. awesome eater.. I remember going through some PRETTY rough days with Li so I'm completely counting my blessings with him being so different!!

Some pics from the past 30 minutes. Smile

Aww so cute! An oz a day is terrific, my pedi said they look for 1/2 to 1 oz per day. Glad he is easy for you!

Yay for gaining! Have you been supplementing or just pumping and doing what the LC told you to?
My kid is probably always cold; I usually just have him in cotton pajamas; we had some hot days where he was just in a onesie and sometimes socks (his feet tend to be cold). I never put more than one layer on him. At night he wears a sleeper/gown and a cotton swaddler.
It's hard for me to tell what he needs because I still have those annoying night sweats so I'm an inaccurate person when it comes to temp at night.

I'm supplementing with BM.. I'll feed him each side for about 15-20 minutes and add in about 1 - 1.5 oz of pumped BM to "top off" his tummy.

I know what you mean about wanting to make sure the baby is wearing enough clothes.. I usually put him in socks and long sleeve / footed onesie and of course his hat. Then swaddle him then lay a blankie over him. He seems to be happy with that! Smile
