    Default Baby hats?

I have a...um.. well, an aversion to baby girl hats with flowers on them.

Are hats necessary? Or are they for looks?

I wouldn't say they are necessary.. especially bc we are having Spring babies. But you can find some really cute ones that don't have flowers.

It depends on how cold it is. Hats help baby regulate her body temperature. They have a harder time with that when they are newborns. But if it's not as cold where you are, it might not be as big of a deal. I'm picturing artic conditions here in CO, so I'm thinking yes to hats.

I agree with Nidia though, I'm sure you can find some cute, non-flowery hats out there. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a tiny knit cap to keep her little head warm.

Alissa, happy 29 weeks!!! Do you realize, in two months time (8 WEEKS!!!) that you will be full term and.. didn't you say that's when T made his appearance? I can always get by telling you these things because even though I'm only a few days behind you, I still THINK you're WAY ahead of me...LOL

March, early April won't be *warm* here. It'll be warming up, but definitely not WARM. So, I'll have to look for some baby hats for my registry. Ones without huge gaudy flowers.

Are you delivering in a hospital? I think that all babies around here are given a standard hospital knit hat that has pink and blue stripes. You might not need one after the first few days. And surely there are some simple ones out there.

Hahaha...I just made a toddler hat with a flower on it. Don't hate me for being that girl. lol.

I could never hate you Elizabeth.. erm..

Okay see what it is is this: I have a friend who had a baby girl. The girl is ugly. I hate to even say that, because everyone thinks all babies are cute, but this baby is just ....ugly. She's grown up and shes a CUTIE now, but all I can think about is alllll those pics with that HUGE flower on top of her head (I think it was a headband, not a hat) ...and.. it just wasn't cute. At all.

OMG, Jessica, lol!! You're hilarious! I like a small flower on a headband or hat. People like to add the girly element to say, Hey, this is a girl! The big ones I don't like, but I bought Emma and headband with a small flower already, lol.

Bahahahahahahaha about the ugly baby. Too funny!!!!

Elizabeth has a good point - T came home with a hat from the hospital just as standard issue, so you might not even need to buy a hat. You should ask them when/if you do your hospital tour if you are doing one. Otherwise I bet your midwife knows if she usually delivers at that hospital.

Well some babies are just...I mean I had a cousin who really wasn't a cute baby at all, I mean not even close and now she is about to turn 21 and is absolutely beautiful and does some modeling...so...

As for the hats, I don't care for the huge flower that seems to cover their whole head, but i'm ok with the small ones. Especially if baby doesn't have a whole lot of hair and just happens to be in an outfit that either a boy or girl could wear, so it is kind of making a baby is a girl statement. The hubby thinks this baby won't have a lot of hair or any for that matter because I had no morning sickness(whereas I was sick as a dog with DS and he came out with a full head of dark hair.) and was looking at the little headbands and stuff for her to help people know she is a girl. She's daddys girl already and she isn't even here yet.
