I've only ever watched this show once. And it was a LONG time ago. I just flipped to it...and ... this stupid show has me in tears. When they have the baby and get to hold it.. I just pray I can make it that far.
They're all talking about what an immediate difference it makes in your family and how hard it is the first week or so. I'm seriously scared, but more excited. I can handle it! (Ladies, in a few months when I freak out about NOT handling it...remind me of this post! LOL)
You CAN handle it. You're going to be a great mom! You seem to always want to take care of the people around you...that is a great trait in a mother. :)
Having a new baby is scary though. I was scared to death of Tristan when he was born. I seriously couldn't believe those maniacs at the hospital would just send me home with a fragile newborn; I didn't know anything about babies!!!! Plus yes, they totally change your life. And the no sleep thing is really hard. But soooo worth it. You are going to love being a mom, I know it! :)
Haha, I have a feeling I'm going to be the same way. I hold my friends newborns, but I'm still so scared when I do. I love love love babies, but I'm also afraid of how fragile they are.Quote:

I believe it is all about expectations. Expect it to be challenging, but not impossible! Expect to be awake every few hours, expect to have to work at nursing, expect to be totally in LOVE!
Do some preplanning to alleviate the stress. Maybe do ahead a meal plan for that first week Make a plan for visitors (we told family no visiting, it would have been too stressful for me since I feel I have to entertain). Empower your DH on what he can do. Mine was in charge of output those first few days. :) He also prepped our meals and cleaned up so I could rest or nurse.
I was terrified of dropping Sam when he was first born. He was soo small and wiggly!
You know, the thing is, they're not nearly as fragile as they seem. We're always so terrified of dropping them or whatever ... and then you'll get a million posts about someone's baby falling off the bed or the couch or slamming head first into the coffee table and the baby is always fine. They're amazingly resilient against most of our terrible parenting mistakes, lol. Believe me, if my kid is alive and isn't brain damaged by now, you'll do just fine!
Jessica - you're way ahead of where I was if you were taking care of your brother when he was a baby. I was four when my only sibling was born, and we never lived close to cousins, and I only ever babysat older kids (potty trained only) so I had never even changed a diaper before I took the hospital "Baby care" class. Clueless!
I agree with Joan though - they seem like they're made of spun glass, but they are actually pretty darn resilient. I can't even tell you how many times T has fallen down and slammed his head into stuff, and he can still write his name and is figuring out math, so I guess he didn't damage his noggin too terribly. :lol:
You should watch Bringing Home Baby (not sure if it's still on). I like it way more than A Baby Story (which usually makes me want to hurl, it's too dramatic). But it focuses on the first few days after they bring the baby home and gives you a look into what it's like to have a newborn!
The first one is hard, not gonna lie! You just have nothing to compare it to so you're just experimenting haha! BUT you always have to have a first and the more you have, the easier it gets!
Wow... we feel/think exactly alike! I'm absolutely terrified and yet I cant wait! We'll get through that first week with flying colors I'm sure of it. For the record, I may need reminding of this when the time comes too... hahahaQuote:
