Baptism/christening???

Anyone planning one? If so how big, when etc?

We are doing Rylees on July 7th and I was thinking it would not be that big due to the holiday being that week but we are over 50 right now with still a lot not responded. The choosing of godmother was a bit of an issue for us due to not choosing my SIL but so far it is going ok. We are just having it back at our house after the church. The food is stressing me out because I want it easy and not super expensive. I have an aide in our bakery shop at the school that I teach at making the cake.

This is a hot topic right now. Both my husband and I grew up catholic and did all the sacraments, however, neither of us go or belong to a church. Our families are wanting us to do it and I also would like to do it, but DH thinks its silly since we haven't been to mass in years and he doesn't really consider himself religious anymore. If we do it, then it would be a small thing with immediate family only. No big party, and I'd probably just have my brother and SIL be the godparents.

Good luck with the food. It can be so expensive. Will she wear a baptism gown? If so, where you do buy something like that? I have no idea where to look for that kind of thing. I guess there are always options online.

This is a bit of an issue for us too. First of all, we're sorely short on viable options for godparents. Second, we haven't been to mass in forever.

We also do not attend mass like we should but we do hope to go back. Both our families are big catholic and it is important especially to mine. We will not be forceful on the kids and will raise them with freedom to try other religions if that is their wish but we figure starting with what we know is probably best.

DH is one of three with two sisters and I am basically an only child with just a half sister. So with my DD it was obvious my one SIL and then DH has two best friends that have been his friends since they were 7. They are huge in our lives so we had one as best man and other the first godfather. I knew with Rylee his other sister was expected but we do not get along with her and she makes NO effort when it comes to the kids. Never offers her help or visits etc. so my best friend who I have only known 8 yrs but we are two peas in a pod was our choice. It was tough telling my MIL especially but I think she gets it because today her and DH were talking and she mentioned having a heated convo last night about her lack of effort with the girls. On a side note my BIL who is married to my DDs godmother has not met Rylee yet in almost 11 weeks. I don't get it?!?!

We have a gown that DD wore that I got at jcpenney online. Kohls also has a lot to choose from. It has four leaf clovers on it with a matching bib and then matching shoes too. It s awesome but not super gaudy or stuffy since they've both been baptized in summer.

Oh I think you have mentioned this other SIL here before. Yeah, I'd go with your friend, especially if the SIL doesn't make an effort for your girls. That's important.

Thanks for the tips on the gowns. I really want to convince DH to do it. I don't know why really, maybe just because I like going through the motions.

We are Presbyterians and will be doing a baptism at some point. There are three babies in our church that were born within a couple weeks of each other so we might combine them, who knows. I guess it just depends on when DH wants to do it. Sometimes my parents come down but we don't have a huge celebration or anything and we don't pick godparents so it's pretty low key.
