Yup, sponge bath until the umbilical cord stump is gone. We did the sink a few times, then DH got brave and just did the shower with him until he was big enough to sit up in the tub alone and I was always just in the bathroom for when DH was ready to hand him off. I'd take him and dry and dress him while DH finished his shower. I personally was scared to death to shower with him because I was afraid i'd slip and fall while holding him, but I have a feeling that this time being a girl, i'll have to put my big girl panties on and do it. Haha!

I never liked the kitchen sink because you have to find a tub that fits well in there, and the one I had just didn't fit and was huge.
With my first, I just bought one of those foam things (BRU had a bear one for like $5) and used that.
But with my second, I would often bath her w/ my other child so I wanted something more protective.
So I got a sling like this: Amazon.com: Summer Infant Mother's Touch Deluxe Baby Bather, Pink: Baby (same as Aimee, just in pink) and just used the bathtub. It was easier because everything was there already and there was space. Then when baby was old enough to sit up, I used this: Amazon.com: Juvenile Solutions Thermobaby Bath Ring - Blue with Green: Baby except mine has a part that goes over the side of the tub to keep it there.

    *lurker*

I wish I had kept my bath ring! Mine had the thing over the side of the tub too, it was great once DD1 was older. They are now illegal in Canada so I'm SOL to get a new one

Yup I did say illegal - we here in the great white north take peoples stupidity to heart and will pass laws to protect others from more stupidity... parents left children UNATTENDED in the bath in them so the Canadian government decided to outlaw the (obviously flawed ) merchandise... sigh...

Yeah, I think I had heard something about a recall on them because of that. Since the reason was just for leaving them unattended, I didn't think I needed to get rid of mine. I'm not sure if they sell them new in the states; I got mine from a friend.

We used a plastic infant tub with a sling, although I think I only bathed DD a few times her first year of life. I mainly just wiped her off with a damp washrag or baby wipes rather than do an actual bath as she didn't enjoy it when she was little. When she was still in the sling, I would put the tub on the bathroom counter next to the sink and just pour a little warm water over her and once she got big enough to sit in the tub, I put it inside our tub and sat on the edge while I was bathing her. I never tried showering with her as I was afraid she would be too slippery and squirmy to hold onto.
