    Default Colic???

So from day 1, Henry has been a fussbutt. His pediatrician has twice referred to him a fussbox. He screams and screams unless he has a boob in his mouth. He does a lot of comfort nursing, which I think is giving him gas.

We have tried the happiest baby on the block, none of it works. NONE of it!!! We have tried the car, the vacuum, the dryer. Nope screams his head off. I have put him in all of my baby carriers which he likes for like 10 minutes.

I can't nurse him every 5 minutes, my nips are cracked, bleeding and feel like knives are stabbing them. I'm using my natural birthing breathing techniques to get thru feedings/comfort nursing. His latch is really pretty good though, I've been working with an LC and she agrees. I just think he is on the boob too much.

So his witching hours are between 2pm and 9pm. He will scream non stop during this time. BUT...at night, he sleeps thru the night. He slept 7 hours last night and I tried to wake him to feed and he wouldn't have it..just kept sleeping. I figured since he is nursing 7 hours straight, I might as well let him sleep thru the night. What do you ladies think?

Mornings are ok too. He usually eats every 2 hours between 6am and 2pm...then by afternoon he turns into a pirana baby.

Here's something else. His right shoulder pops sometimes...its creepy. I'm thinking of taking im to the chiro.

I know its too early to diagnose as colic but 7 hours of non stop crying baby has me worried. Its the kind of cry where he won't let air into his lungs.

Any advice mommas? Sorry I haven't been on here as much. This mom stuff is hard. Plus my dad had 2 heart attacks today, that makes his 3rd and 4th heart attack. We are all really scared. I tried to go up to the hospital to visit and the nurses freaked out that I had a newborn with me. I figured in the cardio wing he wouldn't be at risk, but they asked me to leave bc it wasn't safe. So I gave Henry to my husband, who doesn't have boobs and lil man just cried the whole time I was with my dad.

Ugh sorry I'm a mess. Any advice on the baby stuff is greatly appreciated.

    2. When Liliana would not calm down from colic, I would line a laundry basket with a ton of blankets, lay her in it and put it on top of the dryer. Now this dryer was an old rickety thing my mom had but the vibrations worked wonders.. I'm not sure if you were using the dryer for white noise or vibrations but I would try the vibrations route if you haven't.

Personally? My advice would be to let him sleep.. If there's no concern about his weight, let him sleep when he wants to, let him eat when he wants to. He will let you know what he wants and when he wants it. Trying to live life off a schedule is gonna kill ya. Let him help make things easier by following HIS schedule.

I'm sorry but that was funny!

I'm so so SOOO sorry to hear about your dad.. You definitely have my thoughts and prayers for his health and healing, friend! I know that has to be stressing you out.

Could it be possible he has some gas? Watch his little legs and if he seems to be kicking them (Bram looks like he's trying to ride a bicycle) he could have some gas.. there's gas drops that are safe to use each feeding if it's an issue. With Bram, after he eats, I lay him on his left side in my arms and rub his tummy.. if I feel rumbling, I know he's struggling with gas and will need some drops to help with the toots and poops.

Another thing to think about.. stress. With all you mentioned above, there's no way you're NOT under a measurable amount of stress.. Little Henry man feels that through the vibes you sub-consciously put off. He feeds off you.. I know it's not easy, but try to take some deep breaths and let everything else go to the back of your mind when you're focusing on him.. He may be more relaxed in turn!

Hang in there, ladybug. Being a mama is hard work.

I'm so sorry Elizabeth! My first baby was a cranky little man and I almost lost it on many occasions with him. It's really, really hard. Make sure you have someone to talk to or that you at least come on here to vent. I'm sorry that nothing is working for him. I would think the happiest baby stuff would help a little. When is your next pediatrician appt? I'm just wondering if there isn't a medical issue here, like reflux or a food allergy. I hope you get some relief soon, but know us BTDT moms understand. Hugs!

Quinn was like that. And it did start early. I think I noticed he wasn't quite like his sister at the hospital, and the full on colic started a few days later. The projectile vomiting came a little later, so watch out for that. If he was awake, he was screaming.

The only way to get him to sleep was to swaddle him tightly, shush really loudly in his ear, and swing him in my arms with a big pendulum motion. We were at least rewarded with a baby who STTN, but he didn't really stop being colicy until he was crawling at about 9 months old.

The pedi did put him on zantac drops, which helped the vomiting and reflux issue. Have you noticed anything with your diet that makes him cry more than others? It may be worth keeping a food log to compare to his episodes.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with Henry. I have those drops Adriana was talking about. They don't last a long time, but they're helpful immediately. They help Julie fall asleep. She's had horrible gas lately and it makes me wonder how much ISN'T coming out. I would definitely definitely definitely let your baby sleep when he wants to sleep.

I hope your dad comes through with flying colors. ((((HUGE HUGS))))

I don't have any experience with colic personally but a friend did and it was like within a week home from hospital and she held off for weeks until it was misery. She just thought it was normal baby stuff until she left him with her mom one day and her mom said this baby is in pain from reflux and colic and once on meds made thins so much better.

We have gas issues too and use mylicon drops. Helps a lot usually

Oh my goodness, I hope you dad is okay.

My first was really cranky and it's so hard! You're doing a great job.
Do you give him a pacifier? My first would scream constantly unless he was nursing. I was dead on my feet by the time his 5-day appointment rolled around. I had put off the paci because I was worried about BFing getting established, but he was gaining weight like crazy so I finally tried it. I won't say it was magic, but it really helped with the constant nursing. He was still clingy and had sleep issues until 24 months. With the others I just gave the pacifier in the hospital (after the first few nursing sessions) and it made things much easier. But, I know some parents don't like to use one.

The sleep sounds amazing. I wouldn't wake him up as long as he's gaining weight fine.

Good luck! hang in there, it gets easier.

We have tried a pacifer. He takes it for about 2 minutes and continues to scream. I have to say today has been a tad bit better. I do think it might be gas related, because I myself am gassy. Not sure what in my diet is causing that.

I've had better success with the moby today. Thank god, that thing is a nipple saver!

hmm... hopefully it's gas and you'll get it under control. If you want him to take a pacifier you may have to try a few brands. My oldest only wanted the avent brand, middle wanted his thumb, and the youngest like the soothies from the hosp.
