Diaper Duty (XP)

It's been 10 years since I had to even think about diapers so I'm at a COMPLETE loss! Lol
But, am also obsessed about having enough now that everyone and their mother is having annual baby sales and they are on sale or have a free gift card attached to them. lol..

So far I have..

96 - Newborn (up to 10 lbs)
188 - Size 1 (up to 12 lbs)
672 - Size 2 (up to 18 lbs)

I'm thinking about going out to Target today since it starts their Annual Baby Sale and picking up some Size 3 diapers.. They have them as low as 21.8 cents / diaper right now.

Do I have enough of some? I think I should go exchange one box of Size 2 for Size 3.. 672 sounds like a lot to me.. ??

Yes, I know some will cloth diaper and that's wonderful but this thread is about disposable ones, please, as I try to figure out just exactly what I need. Biggrin Thank you Biggrin

Wow! I'm impressed!!! We dont have even one yet... Dh think its silly to buy some now. This is something we totally disagree on. I feel we should start buying now so we dont have to buy so many at one time. He's a procastinater and I'm a planner. We usually balance each other out... not so much when it comes to planning for baby. LOL

Wow!!!! LOL I'm with Leslie, I don't have any yet. My SIL is talking about putting together a small family sprinkle for me (I told her I don't need much, just maybe diapers and a few long sleeved outfits) plus my work will probably do a department shower for me, so I will probably wait to buy diapers after that. I doubt I'll go all out though. Just a couple of packs of newborn.

Lol I'm a total planner, too! lol.. And with this topic, for the same reasons as you. If we have a few bucks here and there, use em for what you KNOW you're going to need. Smile

Maybe I feel the need to overcompensate.. With DD, I had NO money and struggled horrifically in the financial department. Now, we're having a little man.. which is ALL new stuff for us.. and we are ok financially. lol.. (And I have someone to go through this all who WANTS to ROFL )

At least I haven't bought him a million outfits! Biggrin

I am with you! We just started ordering diapers and formula and have the stuff we need. I still have a box of 2 and a box of 3 from my daughter that we saved. 21.8 seems expensive to me for diapers. Do you do amazon mom? For the first year you get free prime shipping and if you do subscribe and save (you sign up for say 6 month delivery and cancel after the first delivery) you can get diapers for really cheap. I usually pay between .15-.19 depending on the size etc. the other awesome thing is with diapers amazon does returns for up to a year so we shipped boxes back months after we bought them

Don't feel bad; I bought like 12 long sleeved sleepers 2 weeks ago. I just got a wild hair up my butt that he was going to be too cold or too hot at night unless I stockpiled sleepers in fleece, terry, and cotton so that we options depending on how cold it is. In retrospect, it seems a bit excessive especially considering the fact that a) we haven't had our showers/sprinkles yet and b) I don't even know how big he is going to be or if he will even fit all of those newborn sleepers, but by god Rocket Ship will not go cold at night if I have my way about it....

I think we all get on kicks as far as things we need to do to be prepared. Mine was sleepers, yours is diapers. Smile

I have seen the Amazon mom stuff but haven't really purchased anything from it.. we're Prime members so maybe I should? LOL..

The regular price was about 33 cents per diaper.. just NUTS!!! But then again.. I wish I would have remembered what I paid for DD's diapers.. I'd probably cry now. lol..

I'll have to look into this!!

I'm scared I won't be able to BF so my $$ will have to go to formula..Ugh! lol..

I asked someone to guess about how many diapers they went through per day (he still has a baby at home). He said 4, on a good day, 6 on a "normal" day. I don't know how long they stay in certain sizes on average, but 6 a day is gonna go quick! Especially if you need MORE than 6 a day. I don't have any diapers. I've thought about buying some, but I'm still at the "I don't want to jinx myself" stage. I know that's ridiculous, I'm 30 weeks pregnant, but that's just me.

And can I just add here, that before I got pg, DH said if we had a girl he was never going to change her? WHAT?? He said he wouldn't feel right, because it's a girl. I was like..you're her DAD, not some sicko on the street. I haven't asked him if he's changed his mind yet, I plan on just handing her to him and being like... she stinks, your turn. LOL

Adriana - I only recently decided to atleast try to BF. I was completely against it at first... and honestly.. I think the only reason I'm gonna try to BF is to save money. So I totally hear ya about wondering if all the money is going to be spent on formula.

I'm totally for BF - and happy you're at least considering it, girl!! Biggrin

But my issue is if milk ever comes in or not. I didn't ever have a big supply and DD never wanted to latch on so it was completely out of my control.. We're planning for some help this time if it's an issue. Wink

I don't remember how much we used with DS and he'll be 7 this year. I do remember he used newborn size diapers for almost the first month. He was 7lbs 0oz and 20in at birth. If I remember correctly he was in size 2's a lot longer than size 1's.
We haven't bought anything yet. We registered for 2boxes of size 1's and a box of size 2. We figured we would buy a small pack of newborn size just in case we needed them but wouldn't stock up on them. I'd rather stock up on the sizes we know we will need more/a lot of. We'll see what happens after our shower, since we might receive more than just what we registered for and I am a ok with that. Smile

I wouldn't worry too much about exchanging sizes just yet. Most stores are great about letting you do a one for one size swap so you can just wait and see on that. Also, you never know if you'll need that many newborns, or if you'll even need any. We didn't, but our friends just had a baby and they'll be using them for a while. I'm trying to remember (it was almost 5 years ago), but I feel like we went through sizes 1, 2, & 3 lightening fast. It's so hard to predict. I'm not buying any because I know I'm getting a ton from work and we only plan on using disposables part time anyway.

I think you're set for now. You never know how fast your LO will grow. I do know you don't need many of the newborn ones, you've got plenty I think.
Also, if you can keep track of sales/coupons, a good stock up price is $4 for a jumbo pack (not box) of diapers. It's better to buy them by the pack because you can use more coupons that way.

Wow Adriana, that's awesome! I'm like Alissa, I'm shopping but not for practical things yet. I'm still buying cute stuff. But I think starting next paycheck, I will also start stocking up on diapers. I feel like those are rarely bought for registries unless its a diaper party.

I haven't started buying diapers yet, but we probably should. I think when DD was little we went through about 10 diapers a day, once she got bigger it went down to 4-6 a day. I have no idea how many of each size we went through total though, but it was a lot!

Yes. If you think about it, 6 diapers a day = each diaper lasts about 4 hours. That is definitely not the case with newborns. I seem to recall that they literally go to the bathroom every time they eat (making room in that little body? I don't know, but I swear it's true) and they eat about every 2 hours. So that's closer to 10-12. Maybe when they are older and bigger (I really don't remember) but when they're tiny, they eat and go to the bathroom CONSTANTLY. LOL
