Henry's 2 week appt

Henry had his 2 week check up yesterday. He weighed 7lbs 10oz! He weighed 6lbs 7oz at birth, so a little over a pound. I asked about the crying fits and the pedi just said "oh thats normal." But she said if it got out of control to try gripe water. Ha normal! We tried the gripe water...didn't seem to do anything.

On a good note, I did some drastic changes in my nursing habits. My left nipple is so cracked there is a quarter inch crater looking hole in it. So I busted out my nip shield and let me tell you that thing is heavenly. Also he has been feeding about 16x during the day and sleeping thru the night, which was causing engorgement issues and clogged ducts. So I tried setting an alarm and waking him to feed and he just wont have it. I change his dipe, tickle his toes, blow on his face but he remains passed out. If I do get him latched..its a lazy one. So I decided to do a full pump session last night and let him sleep. My boobs haven't felt that good in a long time. The only thing that scares me is him waking up for a feeding right after I pump. I haven't introduced a bottle yet, so this could be a problem.

Good job mama! Henry is gaining well. SO sorry to hear about your poor nip. OUCH! I had a crack and that was bad enough. I hope the shield helps it heal fast.

How much did you pump last night? A good start to your freezer stash Smile .

I pumped 4.5 oz. Is that a lot or not a lot? I need to research how much to give for that first bottle feeding. Or what did you gals do for that first bottle?

Sounds like he is getting plenty of milk, so great job Mama! I agree, I've never had any luck with either gripe water or gas drops with either one of my boys, so unfortunately I don't think they are a cure all. It never hurts to try though. Sounds like other than the crying fits he is doing very well.

Eeeek, sorry about your nipple, but I'm glad that the shields and pumping are bringing you some relief. I can't believe Henry sleeps all night. I'm so so jealous. LOL

Wow, he is gaining weight REALLY well!! You're obviously doing the right thing! I wouldn't wake him at night; I would pump just like you're doing. I understand being afraid of him waking up though!
Hope the nip feels better; I have considered using a nipple shield to heal mine up but I'm afraid it will affect my already-low milk supply.

4.5 oz is flipping AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: Good job!!

For the first bottle, I would start with 2-3 oz.. Bram seems to be taking between 4-5 and he's almost 6 weeks old. Smile

Its so great to see them gain well! I also had to laugh a bit at the gripe water suggestion as if that is some sort of magic, instant cure all.

I'm sorry your nipples are still hurting so badly. I'mgglad the nipple shield offers you some relief. You're doing great momma!
