holy crap sleep

After a whole week of just terrible, terrible sleep and constant waking up for gas, I tried something. After she fell asleep nursing for bedtime, I put her in her car seat hoping it would help her digest better. She slept until 12:45 that night! She's NEVER done that! She woke up with a bit of gas (still MUCH better than before) and wasn't even much interested in eating. Poor thing wants to sleep that long but the gas has been waking her up. I tried it again last night and she went until 3 am without eating. SO CRAZY. Of course, today, I'm reading all these articles about how dangerous it is to let them sleep in their car seat (and the swing for that matter) ... great. Can we do anything to make our lives a bit easier without being told it will kill our babies? She's in there in a way where her head never ever falls forward. I feel so refreshed after two nights of sleep. I'm a totally different person. I can't go back to waking up 8 million times a night.

I'm so glad you finally got some sleep! FWIW my doctor actually recommended we let Reid sleep in his carseat because of his reflux. I actually ended up getting him a Rock N Play to have him sleep on an incline, which I would recommend to you, except I feel like he's already getting close to outgrowing it so you might not be able to use it for very long. But seriously, my dr was not at all worried about Reid sleeping in the carseat if it helped his reflux.

I'm definitely hesitant to buy anything because I feel like at 2 and a half months, she should be outgrowing these issues soon.

I am glad you found something that works so you can get some shuteye. Its funny the carseat works for you guys, Henry hates his. And I've been reading a book called "Colic Solved" and in there it says most reflux babies hate their carseat, something about that position and the LES.

However I just bought a rock n play last week and he seems to like it. So in our room we have a pack n play with bassinet, a swing and a rock n play. Crazy. If he falls asleep in my arms, we typically swaddle and transfer to the bassinet. If he is fighting sleep, then we swaddle, turn on the vacuum and put him in the swing. I use the rock n play for when he wakes up to feed in the middle of the night. If I try to put him back in the bassinet, he pops awake because of reflux I think. And I'm too lazy to get his swing going again. The rock n play is great because its the same height as my bed and when he starts to stir I can just reach over and rock him as and her passes out again. And mine says it goes up to 25lbs and its approved for sleep unlike the swing and bouncer.

We had a rough night, he woke up every 1.5 hours to eat. This started at 10pm. Boo. I think he is going thru his 6 week growth spurt, bc he ate every hour on the hour this morning too.

I agree the Rock n Play is awesome. And like Elizabeth, his poor nursery is so full of apparatuses (sp?). He has the crib which I never use - it's still lowered with one side removed from Noel - the rock n play which is the only thing I use at night, and the bouncer which I just use to put him in if I'm in that area of the house during the day. It's so disorganized but I don't want to take the crib down if we'll be using it eventually.
I'm thinking J has some sort of reflux too because he never liked the cosleeper because it was so flat. That's why I'm waiting to transition him to the crib. I do like that you can rock it. At night we use the Sleep Sheep white noise and put him swaddled in the Rock n Play to sleep.

ETA: I would say the Rock n Play would be good until they start sitting up/pulling up themselves because then they could fall out of it.

I just feel better knowing I'm not the only one having to try new things to get more sleep. Last night I had to turn on all the lights. Turn the tv on loud and swing here back and forth in my arms at 12:30 am for an hour to get her to go back to sleep. Crazy! I also love the rock n play. She only will sleep in it during the day.

Well, I got a Rock N Play. Someone was selling it used so I got it for $25. It's this one.

I really like it. It's not a miracle worker, nothing is, but she did sleep in it all but a few hours last night. I was also able to pump and keep her asleep with the rocking. I think she likes that part of it touches her cheek though I wish she didn't lay with her head in the same position the whole time. Overall, it was a great purchase, especially since I got it cheap.

That's great. Yeah the rock n play didn't work its magic like usual last night. But a lot of nights it does. I also was told to do this trick of putting a heating pad in it while you nurse them and then remove the heating pad when you transfer them back. Usually works, but he was just awake as can be at 3am. Boo. It's great you got it half price...score!

What's amazing about the Rock N Play is that she will resettle herself in it. She still stirs and moves constantly but but will just fall back asleep. Since she's not on my chest it doesn't keep me up all night either. I usually end up bringing her to bed with me towards the morning because by that time, I'm too tired to be bothered with feeding her and trying to lay her back down again.
