So I will preface this by saying Henry is a lot better. He even slept 7 hours last night. I'm sure it was just a lucky night and we won't see that happen for awhile. But it was great. Whether its the reflux meds (zantac and prevacid), my eliminating dairy and soy, or just knowing his language a little better, I am not sure, but he seems better. However, he still has some bouts of fussiness and he's just so dang loud when he cries that people stare.
So I went to another LC yesterday to pick up a scale since my right breast is under performing in supply. He won't stay on that breast and prefers the left (the one with the crappy flat nipple, great!). And when I pump, I pump 4-5oz on my left and only .5-1oz on the right. I knew pumping wasn't an accurate way to see how much they are taking in, so I rented the scale. He is taking in about .5 oz on the right and about 2-2.5oz on the left, so my pumping was pretty accurate. Anyway....
The LC observed a feeding and noticed that he does eat quite fast for his age. And thinks maybe he is overeating to soothe his throat from GERD. She said this can be cyclical and lead to babies protesting the breast. She also witnessed one of his colic breakdowns that occurred approximately 10 minutes after I fed him. She was like, whoa, that baby has got some lungs. She said he is definitely in pain and that my reflux medicine should be doing something to take that down a notch. Haha. So she thinks its an allergy. She asked me to give up dairy and soy, which I have already done. But to also give up nuts, peanut butter, citrus fruits, and wheat gluten. She asked that I do it for 10 days and start adding things back in.
OMG!!! What the crap will I eat? I'm so hungry ladies. I am eating meats and veggies and non citrus fruits, but dang I just want a chocolate bar, macarroni and cheese, and spoonfuls of peanut butter, and all my snack foods that have wheat gluten. Ha! I'm not clear if I'm allowed to have beans. But I'm eating some, because they are filling.
Anyone else ever done an elimination diet? How did you survive?
