    Default Iron Supplements

So I just got a call from my midwife's office and the blood work from yesterday showed my iron is a bit low. This is the first pregnancy it has happened but my mom was anemic so I'm not surprised.
I actually have some Pur-Absorb liquid packets I got free last year that I'll probably start with.
My midwife recommends Garden of Life raw iron because it's better absorbed but it's also $15 for 30 capsules and I'm supposed to take 4 a day!!

Do any of you have recommendations? Elizabeth, was it you who said your iron was low as well?

My midwife recommended Floradix liquid, but told me I could take whatever. I'm supposed to have the Floradix 3x daily. Unfortunately when we moved I left it in the fridge and the power got shutoff, so there goes $28 down the drain.

I'm taking some walgreens brand right now until I get more Floradix. Or maybe I will check out the kind that you are taking. Where did you buy them?

I got the Pur-Absorb from CVS. It says to take one packet per day. You don't have to refrigerate them. I put one in my Crystal Light drink for dinner and could barely taste it.
Can you get a script for iron supplements?

Yeah I'm actually going to pick some free samples up next week at my appointment and I'm sure they will write me a script if I want one. I've been so busy with the move that I haven't had time to coordinate all the iron stuff, plus I just can't deal with the midwives nurses and office staff...so I'm just taking those walgreens pills and trying to increase my iron in my meals. And eating/drinking citrus so that I absorb more.

So here is a weird question...isn't iron supposed to make you constipated? Well its doing the opposite to me, because I go #2 quite frequently, like twice a day. Should I be concerned? Does that mean my body isn't absorbing iron? I plan to ask this next week at my appointment.

I had the same thing happen to me when I took the glucose test. They said it came back normal but my iron was low and that I needed to take an iron supplement. So I just went to walmart and got a bottle called Spring Valley. And showed my doctor and she said that was fine. I think it cost about 4$.
