My doc appt

Such a strange appt. First and foremost, everything is okay with baby. She brought the doppler in (The same EXACT one that I have!) and she found the heartbeat like...immediately. It made me laugh because I always have to search around a bit and she landed right on it. She said it's about 140bpm, which is fine - and points towards a boy. (On a side note here, I just "know" I'm having a boy, I think DH would be through the roof with a little boy... but I kind of want a little girl, probably because I'm surrounded by men all the time). She said it was an old wives tale (which I knew) and then she got down to business. I'm severely dehydrated, she said right NOW that's not a huge deal for the baby, but as it grows it needs more fluid to float around in and less fluid runs a risk of the baby pushing up against the cord and cutting off his/her blood supply. She also found trace amounts of protein in my urine, which means I'm not eating enough protein and my body is breaking down my muscles to be able to give protein to the baby.

So yeah.. it was a very quick appt, maybe 5 minutes. She also offered me a blood screen to "screen" not "Test" for many things wrong with the baby and I opted out. She said during the gender scan, the doc will look for everything anyway and if they find something abnormal, I gotta to a hospital that specializes in that stuff. Plus, she said a screening will give me a number like... 1 in 285 for down syndrome. And I know me, and I'd be hyperventilating thinking I was the 1. Plus, since it can't give me a "absolute" answer, I just see that as extra worry.

Scheduled my gender scan for November 20th! That's about the only exciting thing.

I am glad you had a great appointment. It will be way easier to drink plenty of fluids when you are no longer sick!

I hear you on the screening. My risk came out 1:250 and my doc is freaking out, but I am not.

Sounds like a great appt! I don't blame you for turning down the test. I probably will too. I read somewhere that like 95% of women who get "bad" results are getting a false positive, so a lot of worrying over nothing. I probably won't do it either.

Did you ask about the ring of pain with projectile vomiting that you have been experiencing?

Glad the baby is just fine!! I agree you have been really sick! Just try to get more fluids in you!

I'm going through the stress of the Down's test. My number is considered high, even though they assured me it was fine. I'm considering denying the 16 week bloodwork that I have to do. I want to see what my OB thinks about it. I really don't want the added stress.

Mari -

:bigarmhug:

I'm sorry that you are stressing. Like I said, I heard those tests have a high rate of false positives. I hope that your OB has more comforting info for you.

Thanks everyone.

Alissa, yes I asked about it and she didn't seem too concerned at all. Like I said, it was really rushed.. like she didn't have time for me today and that sucks cuz she's usually really awesome.

So glad to hear that the baby is doing well! It's so hard to drink enough fluids. Water just taste disgusting still. I bought some powdered gatorade to give it a hint of flavor without overdoing it on the sugar. I don't add as much as the regular ration says. You might try that.

We chose to deny all genetic testing. My friend did it and they were told their baby had a high chance of down's and they worried and the baby is fine. I didn't want to live with that kind of stress. Sorry you are going through that Mari. I'm sure the baby will be fine!

Jessica - I'm sorry that the MW was too rushed. I hope that whole thing doesn't happen to you again. On the other hand, hopefully the fact that she wasn't too concerned means that it's not anything serious, although she should have still taken the time to talk with you about it.

Glad to hear baby is going great. I won't do the genetic testing either, I figure its more likely to cause stress over nothing and I'm going to have the baby anyway so I'd rather not give myself an unnecessary reason to worry.
