My OB Appt Yesterday - "You could go at any time..."

Hey all,
So I went to my weekly OB appointment yesterday. The good news - Rocket's HR is great and I didn't gain any weight from last week (my dr was pleased because he said that means I'm probably not retaining a ton of water.)

The bad news is that my BP was even higher. Luckily, it went down a little bit when they had me lay on my side and they retook it, but the doc said that we will watch it and if there comes a point where it doesn't go down when I'm laying down, or if I get other symptoms like headaches or dizziness, then we will talk about inducing me right away.

Then, he checked my cervix. Per my doc, I am 2 cm dialated, 75% effaced, and my "bag of waters is bulging" which he said means that I "could go at any time." It's such deja vu, because this is exactly what happened with T, too. We checked my chart, and with T I went in at 36.5 weeks, and I was 2-3 cm dialated and 80% effaced, and I went into labor like 5 days later. Apparently once you are 2 cm dialated, real labor can begin at any time. He did say that it's not a guarantee, that I could go tonight or last another 2 weeks, but he said that my body is DEFINITELY gearing up for labor at this point. He also said that he won't try to stop the labor from this point on, because at 36 weeks and especially being a big baby (for 36 weeks) Rocket should be fine. Which is fine I guess, but I have set a goal for myself that I will NOT go into labor until at least next Tuesday when I will be 37 weeks. (LOL, I know, I know, there is no way for me to really control it, but hey, embrace the power of positive thinking.)

He also said that it's unlikely they will need to induce given everything that my body is doing, but if they DID have to induce (because of my blood pressure) then my body is already a good candidate for doing it and not needing a c-section because I'm already effaced and dialated enough that it wouldn't be a problem. I still don't want to induce if we don't have to, but I was happy to hear that if we do have to make that decision, at least the odds are in my favor that I won't have to have a c-sec. I don't know why exactly, but the idea of a c-section TERRIFIES me.

So that's me. Everyone send me "Rocket stay put until Tuesday" vibes, okay!

I think my heart started racing for you beginning with the post title from the main page!

I'm soooooo excited for you, thinking little rocket man has the possibility of being here any time. And the nursery is freshly complete..

CSs terrify me too.. I've never had one but know how much pain I was in when I had the gallbladder taken out.. I can't imagine being cut for a BABY!

Hang in there till tuesday, Rocket!!!!! Mama says so! Lol

I'm soooo excited for you, DH and T! Biggrin

Well I've had a c-section and while it's totally surviveable, I don't want one either! I'm soooo excited for you though. I'll keep hoping for you that you make it to at least Tuesday, but you're totally about to have a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so.. I totally hope Rocket stays in until Tuesday! But can I just say that I'm completely envious? One, you and I must have completely different appointments LOL My appt yesterday was ...hi, heartbeat check, measure my uterus (stomach), gbs swab, done! Maybe 5 minutes. There's never been any talk about how big the baby is or when she could come or anything like that. And two, HELLO!! You could go at any time?? I so want to be done! Like, as a whole, except for the morning sickness, this pregnancy hasn't been completely awful, BUT ...day to day it's getting harder and harder.
So - Rocket STAY PUT. And Julie can come at 37 weeks. Smile LOL

Congrats Alissa!!!! I know you are prolly super excited about rocket's arrival! I will pray for you and Rocket and I hope everything goes well. I can definitely say I know what you mean about the idea of having a c - section. I really don't want to have one at all. I will go through whatever pain I must so that I don't have to have a c-section. Smile But I really hope things keep going well and I can't wait to hear about Rocket's arrival Smile

Thanks everybody!

Adriana - He is guestimating about 6.5 lbs right now, just by feeling around on my stomach. It was kind of funny, he was, like, smooshing my stomach. He started from top to bottom and first said about 6 lbs, but then he started smooshing from side to side too, and changed it to 6.5. I figure if I go next week, that makes a 7ish lb baby, which would be just perfect.

Jess - LOL about being jealous. All you have to do if you want get longer appointments is develop health problems like gestational diabetes so they are worried about the size, and high blood pressure, so they are worried about that too. Work on that for your next visit. ;P LOL In all seriousness though, I do NOT blame you for being so so ready to be done. I can't even fathom being sick for as long as you have been. If there is any justice at all, Julie will go sooner rather than later. I promise to send "Come on out Julie" vibes for you, if you'll send "Stick around until Tuesday" vibes to Rocket for me. Smile

OH my goodness how freakin' exciting! So glad that everything is looking good for you. Yep, if you were to be induced, your body is already gearing up so it would probably respond positively.
So any bloody show/mucous plug? I just can't believe you're about to have this baby!!

That's crazy!!! It really is sooo close...

Me on the other hand is totally opposite. I am looking forward to csection and recovered so easily from it that I don't mind at all. Also I want to make it the three more weeks so badly. I am probably wishing it too much so it won't happen

Vicki - It's funny you should ask that. I think I lost at least part of my mucus plug this morning! With T, it was so obviously the "bloody show" because it was shot through with red blood, but this morning it was just a big hunk of mucus tinged with pink, so I'm just assuming that was it. And I was having some painful contractions last night, although nothing regular, and they seem to have gone away. So, we'll see......

Aimee - It's funny how we all have different perceptions about what we want and what is harder. Smile I hope that we all get the birth we want! Smile

Wow. Your mucus plug came out. I know, from Dr Google, that it doesn't mean you're going to drop in labor immediately, but you COULD go into labor at any time. (I know your doc already said that, but...just kind of hits it home for me.) But then - for some reason, I've always thought you were WAY in front of me anyway! LOL

Haha, Jess, I'm only 3 days ahead of you! If I could go at anytime, I'm pretty sure that means that you can go at anytime too! Blum 3

No contractions at all (that I felt anyway) today, so I'm assuming that I'm shelf stable for the moment. LOL

I know, I need to chat with you May ladies more since I might go past my due date. I think I'm the only one I know that wants to make it to 40 weeks for a variety of reasons. I say that now, but I guess I might change my mind as I approach full term status.

I know! I'm happy that I made it to my goal, LOL.

So, I went to my last growth u/s today, and it was all good news. Rocket has grown, but it's slowed down which is what they were hoping to see. He was in something like the 95th percentile at my last month's u/s, and for this month he was at a respectable but far less terrifying 72nd percentile. :woohoo: They said that he is about 7 lbs right now, so if I go to 40 weeks, we are looking at about 8-8.5 lbs, which is still totally doable. No more talk of inducing me before my due date, unless my BP gets totally out of control!!! Yahoo

On the other hand, I think I was having some contractions last night. All evening I felt what felt like bad period cramps, and then they went away for a while. Then, I woke up in the middle of the night and they were even worse, and my back was aching too, so I thought it was possible that I was in early labor. It's funny, since I already have one kid, you would kind of expect me to know this stuff, but my first sign of labor with T was my water breaking and it escalated REALLY fast after that, so I really don't have a great feel for what early labor feels like. Anyway, I went back to sleep last night (I figure if I can sleep through it, it must not be real labor, lol) and when I woke up this morning I felt totally normal again. So who knows. Rocket is free to stick around as long as he likes for at least the next three weeks (unless my BP gets crazy) so I'm fine either way, but I have to admit that I am getting pretty excited to finally meet him and hold him, so I was a little disappointed when I wasn't in full blown labor this morning. Oh well, like I said, whenever he's ready is fine with me, now that we've pretty much reached the 37 week mark.

Yey for making it to 37 weeks Smile Hope Rocket bakes a little longer, the longer the better for me! But my DS was born a day shy of 37 weeks.. so my goal this time is to make it past 37 weeks.

Jessica, you're so funny.. that cracked me up!

I feel pretty normal at the moment. I was having contractions again last night, so I decided to time them just to see where they were, and they were all over the board. Mostly about 1 min long, but anything from 8 min to 20 min apart. Are those BH? They just felt like bad period cramps. Anyway, nothing this morning, which is fine. Rocket is welcome for at least another couple of weeks. Blum 3

You hadn't posted on this BB so I went to see if you had posted at all.. cuz ya know, It was 10am and the last post from you was 7pm the night before. And then I saw you had posted on the Debate board.. It brought mixed emotions of "Ugh.. she's still posting and not laboring. Damn." and.. "Awesome.. rocket is still baking! :clappy: "

Bahaha! Stalk away! Although, I hate to say, I don't think it's going to be soon. I went to my drs appt yesterday, and we have made NO progress in the past week (still 2 cm dilated, and 75% effaced.)

Then we had some excitement. I'm just typed this out on the debate board, so I'm just going to copy and paste.

XP from the Debate Board:

This next part may be TMI, so feel free to skip.

So last night, I went to the bathroom, and there was a TON of blood, and even a couple of large clots. I know that cervical checks can cause "spotting" but this was like a heavy period. Totally freaked. So I called my drs after hours line, and they said that it could be due to the cervical exam, but I should probably go in to L&D at my hospital. So, I finished packing my bag and T's bag just in case this was it, then we took T to my mom's house, and then went in to the hospital. Where they checked me out and determined that I was a) not in labor and b) there was not a thing wrong with me. So I guess the bleeding was from the cervical check, but that just amazes me. I had one last week and I barely spotted any pink, and then this week I'm passing clots the size of quarters? Whaaaaaa?

DH was all disappointed that yesterday wasn't the day. He was like "March 13th is a palindrome! That's a good day to be born!" (3/13/13 reads the same front and back) He's also rooting for today, since today is "Pi Day" (3.14) He's a nerd.

So weird about the blood. I would be concerned. I can't imagine a cervical exam would produce clots like that. So strange. I love it when doctors tell you that you are normal when normal things are not happening.

Pi day would be a cool day. Or maybe he will be a St. Patti's day baby? Or easter baby? But that's getting close to your due date, can you wait that long? Rocket can share a birthday with me, I'm March 25th!! AGhhhhh...I can't believe you are so close though. Wild.
