Name vent...

So why do people feel the need to comment on a persons choice of names???? We have decided on Rylee Jean. Most people like the name but the spelling not as much. My MIL is making me nuts because she keeps sending us stuff of it spelled Riley which to me is more masculine because I have had 3 boy students of that in my years teaching. she sent something to DH today via email and when DH told her that Rylee is of Irish origin she was like oh really we'll ginger (her best friend) will be so relieved but clearly that means this was a darn discussion between them. Grrrrrrr

Like sometimes people need to keep things to themselves

This is why we didn't announce the name of DD until after she was born-seems like people always have to throw in their two cents, no matter what name/spelling you pick which is really annoying. I have told a few people the name we picked for DD2, but for the most part I try to avoid telling people so I won't have to deflect any comments or suggestions.

Yeah, we didn't tell with our first, then decided to tell with our second. Well, we ended up changing our mind and my mom had put the original name on some cards and stuff...and I hated to tell her we had changed it. So yeah, not doing that again, we'll wait this time!

Ya we have only told close people and not really announced it. With my first we told because we were down to two names and his cousin announced a name and it was one of them. We are not ones to change it because I never feel oh wait and see them but really I guess it is just mil making me nuts lol

I'm in the same boat as you. Not my MIL, she loves the name we picked out. So does my mom...she actually squealed when we told her LOL. But, this guy at work has constant criticism. Her name is going to be Julie Frances. Apparently, Julie is too old fashioned and Frances is horrible. Honestly, I don't care for the name Frances.....but DH's dad passed away and DH wanted to honor him in some way, so we are. And that's that. But I LOVE the name Julie, so everyone should keep their mouth shut and not knock the name we picked for our daughter.

And I agree with you - Rylee is more feminine while Riley is more masculine, but either way, your MIL should learn how you want to spell it.

It amazes me how rude people are. After the baby is born, you should keep remind her how much grief she gave you. She'll probably feel horrible then.

I really like the way you are spelling it Smile Yeah DH was very hesitant to want to tell people. Me....I just don't care. I think both of our families think our baby name is just so so. They didn't really react happy or sad. His name will be Henry...its old fashioned I guess, but I love it.

I love Julie and Henry as names! I like the old fashioned, not-as-popular now names. Smile
My mom ALWAYS suggests names - usually family names. Which is why we decided not to do any family names - because we were afraid she would get too competitive. I sort of regret that now though because we are trying to do a theme for middle names as starting with P and we are having trouble thinking of more!

Love the name Rylee...I have a cousin named Rylee and it's spelled the same way. Very cute!

We haven't announced the name choice yet well because I haven't decided yet. Hahahaha! But I think we might keep it quiet too. Our DS is Anthony Lee(Anthony is my dads middle name and Lee is my FIL, DH, and Brothers middle name) so we honored a lot of people with his name and didnt get any grief about it. But sometimes I feel like people are more picky about girls names.

I love traditional names too but for some reason on my own I don't haha. Being a teacher is so HARD because every name means something... mostly not good!

DH sent his mother a message this morning and said this is what we are doing and I know it is not your choice but it is final and that is that. With my daughter on the same day Dr. Phil had a grandaughter names Avery Elizabeth and people said stuff with that even though ours had been announced for months before!

Vicki, Tim likes old fashioned names too. I don't care either way, old fashioned or not, I just have to "like" the name. I'm glad I like Julie, because the ones he was coming up with after Julie .... were definite no-no's haha
