Nights are not getting better

Here's how tonight is going:

She started her nurse-a-thon early, so I foolishly thought I'd get to go to bed early. That was silly of me. She nursed from 6-8 and then was just incredibly angry after that and wouldn't latch. I think she was exhausted because I was able to walk her around the house and get her to sleep had to walk her to sleep after that. She slept until about 10, then woke up in the same mood. I got her to nurse for about 15-20 minutes then she refused and just screamed. DH walked her back to sleep and I was finally able to take her to bed at 11pm. By 3:30, she's woken up 3 times wanting to nurse. Holy crap I am so tired. She does fine going two hours between feeds during the day, so what's with these nights? I hate to wish away her infancy, but I could live without a few months of these colicky evenings and total lack of night sleep.

Joan - Hugs! Nights are the worst at our house too, although thankfully he's not screaming, he just wakes up wanting my nipple in his mouth about 5 minutes after I finally get him to sleep every time. I suppose there would be screaming if I didn't give it to him. I totally know what you mean, I want to enjoy him when he's this tiny, but it's hard when you're just completely exhausted. I keep thinking that if he would just sleep (not even STTN, just for like 3 hour chunks without me having to hold/nurse him the whole time) then everything else would be so much easier. They will outgrow this though. They will! That's the thought I cling to, lol

I wish I could give you a magic answer to help. I have BTDT and it's sooo hard. I hope you're getting to sleep in this morning. Smile

Sad I hope your able to get some rest today. And she figures this out soon. I was also going to ask if it's possible she has some gas and is just uncomfy?
Kylie has been sleeping great and then last night hit. She woke up around 8pm from a nap and it took until 1 this morning to get her to sleep on her own in her crib. She would sleep for maybe 5-10 min on her own during this time. Otherwise she was awake and just content to look around. She finally fell asleep at 1 and then was up at 4:40 for about an hour but then she slept until almost 8:30 this morning. So while, this really isn't all that bad, it was the worst night so far for us.

I think its more of her being overtired by the time night comes. She does have some gas trouble, but that usually hits around 4 or 5 am, after lying flat most of the night.

Is she napping regularly during the day? Sad

Not really. I try, but she doesn'taalways sleep well and if we have to go somewhere, she usually won't sleep at all. She's been napping well today, so we'll see if that makes a difference.

I think I know part of the little stinkers problem. She does konk out pretty hard around 2 or so. I usually have to wake her to eat then she tries to konk back out after barely eating. These are her most solid stretches of sleep. Either way, I know from experience, these issues will all pass with time. Her, I can deal with... the fight to get my 4 year old in bed? That's what will drive me crazy, lol!

Good to know I'm not the only one with a baby who wails and refuses to latch. I thought it was just because he takes bottles too and is confused.
We had a rough go last night too with him just wanting to eat all evening and not sleeping. In general though once he gets to sleep he will sleep for 4+ hours the first stretch.
I hope you can figure her out. It's true that these first weeks are sooo hard.

Tonight has been much better so far. She's not giving me and long stretches or anything, but there were no periods of colicky nursing / screaming. I think it helped that I wound her down earlier than usual. I've also been making the effort to pump her legs periodically and it's helped her pass her gas. Hopefully that'll squash the hourly wakeups whichuusually start about now.

She was ok. She seems to have trouble in the last part of the night where she can't get into a deep sleep. She keeps stirring and I have to pat her back to keep her from fully waking. I'm guessing that's something she'll grow out of soon as her sleep patterns develop.

That is Reid's worst time too, for the same reason. He doesn't seem to settle into quiet sleep that last part of the night.
