So i have been trying to stay positive and happy as I near the end of my pregnancy (April 23, 2013). But I am starting to feel as though my body is not preparing for labor as it should be. The only thing that my body has been doing to prepare for labor is some braxton hicks contractions ( when my tummy gets really hard).
I have yet to feel a real contraction and that makes me feel like my body isn't doing what it should to prepare for labor. This scares me because I really don't want to be induced. I really don't want to have a c section and so I am trying to avoid anything that might increase my chances of having one. My ob told me that the best way to avoid having a c section is to not let the doctors do anything to you (like giving you medicine or inducing you). But she also said just because you get an epidural or medicine or get induced doesn't automatically mean you will have a c section. It just increases your chances of having one. So that is why I don't want to be induced. But my body doesn't seem like it is doing anything to prepare for labor and my due date is 2 and a half weeks away. If I have not gone into labor by 41 weeks then I will be induced. My ob said that women who get induced at 42 weeks instead of 41 weeks have a higher chance of having a c section. So I am of course not going to 42 weeks.
But basically to sum it all up, I am just really feeling discouraged and doubtful because I have yet to feel a real contraction and I just don't feel like my body is preparing for labor. This is really stressing me out and causing me to worry which I am also trying to avoid.
Sorry for the long post and thank you for listening.
Hugs lady! Try not to stress. I dialated almost to a 3 without feeling much at all. Also, your body can go into labor quickly once its ready, so even if its not doing anything now, that doesn't mean your running out of time yet.
I had nothing, not even braxton hicks until half an hour/45 minutes after my water broke. I went to bed after creating a huge to do list for the next week, woke up a couple of hours later when my hubby hubby came to bed, figured I would pee and my water broke as I got out of bed. That was my first sign of my body doing anything to get ready for labour. Hold in there, not everyone gets those early signs or early contractions.
I agree with the other ladies. You still have awhile and one day you may go from not being dilated at all to full blown labor. I hear it can happen very quickly. If you are still concerned, maybe try some of the natural things to kickstart labor. Some people believe in them and some don't, but at least its fun to try. Some of the things to try:
Eggplant Parmesean (a local favorite in Dallas..people swear by it)
Red Raspberry leaf tea or supplements
Evening Primrose oil
And as a last resort...castor oil. Although, I'm not sure I'm down for that one.
Take it from me, doll, labor can go from nothing to EVERYTHING in the blink of an eye!
With DD, I was on the phone, chatting it up witha good friend and bored out of my mind with nothing goin on! I excused myself to go dump a log.. told her I'll call her back in a few minutes.. that was Tuesday, May 13th, 2003 at about 9:15 am.
DD was born at 11:43am.
I'm another nothing happens until I have the baby person! For both kids no signs of labor until the day they were born. With DS my water broke at 11pm and he was born at before 7am. With DD contractions started at 7am and she was born a little before 3pm. I had NO SIGNS at all prior to it all kicking into gear and both labors were quick and furious & under 8 hours.

Thank you you guys! Hearing all of your stories and input has really helped me to calm down and feel a lot better. I didn't know labor could just happen without your body showing some signs. So I definitely feel a lot better. Thank you so much girls Going to try to stay positive
Just wanted to add, I am yet another who had nothing (other than BH which started around 20 weeks so that sure didn't mean much!) until I went into labor. I went to bed at 2:30 a.m. disappointed cause I wanted to go into labor to deliver the next day which was 10/10/10 and I had no signs and felt like I would be pregnant for a couple more weeks easily. I was just drifting off when the first contraction hit and DD was born 10 hours later.
I've had it both ways, but with my last dd no signs what so ever... rolled over in bed at 5:30 am and my water broke, contractions really never kicked in, she was the EASIEST labor/delivery EVER! Hang in there momma. I have been feeling the same way too though gotta admit, went to the dr last week and they couldn't even FIND my cervix but like others have said that can change in a hurry
