    Default Summary of Timothy's birth

As crazy as the end of the pregnancy has been, the C-section recovery has been relatively easy.

When we found out Tuesday that he had gone breech I really was devastated. Despite having a large tear with Sam, I felt his birth was easy to recover from. The thought of another surgery (two knee surgeries within the last 12 months) was not sitting well for me. Though my labor concerns around how to keep my knee safe and how to prevent another tear were now a mute point.

We decided that a version was not an option for us due to having the anterior placenta and low fluid, so unless he was able to turn himself back down, then we were going to have the C-section on Thursday morning (if he did turn we would induce).

We arrived at L&D on Thursday morning at 530am. A quick scan showed him breech, dang it!

So we got all prepped for the c section. The spinal was perfect. I had a spinal for my last knee surgery and compared to this one it was night and day.
DH was brought in once I was all prepped and he sat right by my head. They actually had a staff member assigned to him, which was perfect.
They had a little trouble getting him out of my uterus, it took the vacuum extractor AND the forceps AND lots of muscle to get him out. The OB had to extend the incision in the uterus as well to make it happen. Other than feeling super short of breath when they did this, I didn't feel any pain or anything.

They got Tim all stabilized and brought him over to see me. DH held him and they put us cheek to cheek. He was very alert and looking around. And soooo soft! After a few minutes they took him and DH followed to the nursery.

As some of you may remember, we had a bad 1st trimester screening that showed us as being high risk for abnormalities. It also showed a potential placental circulation issue. Because of this, my age (39), gestational diabetes, and knee injury requiring surgery as well as multiple x-rays throughout the pregnancy, we have been followed by the neonatologist the entire pregnancy. Each month we would get another u/s and not find any issues. Each month we got more and more hopeful, but I was still very afraid I would not get to bring home a healthy baby.

In the end, the placenta is what failed first. We were watching it closely, and watched to fluid levels go from high (common with diabetes) to very low in 2 weeks. Also, his growth rate slowed in the last 2 weeks, with minimal growth detected in the last week. So we had decided that we would need to do an induction soon and that is when he turned up breech.

The neonatologist examined Tim in the nursery with DH present. He could not find any issues or signs of genetic abnormality. So tomorrow, we get to take home our healthy baby boy!

Timothy Isaac was born at 843 on 3/21/13. He was 6lbs 7oz and 20 inches long. Yep, he is perfect!

The C-section recovery has been relatively easy. I am having a lot less pain than I expected. It makes me sad a little to think that I will never get to experience another vaginal birth, but I am very happy with this birth experience.

So glad he is happy and healthy!! Sounds like a good call on the c/s since he really needed to come out. And you can always try for a VBAC next time can't you? As long as the incision is horizontal, you're good!
Nice name, that's my DH's name.
