I know we've been talking a lot about what kinds of comments we get from strangers and even family and friends about our pregnancy/baby. Feel free to share yours here!
Other than the typical "When are you due?" something new for me this time is the "Are you having a boy or a girl?" and since I don't know, I get a different response than I did last time (which was "Oh, perfect, you'll have one of each!" )
But this time, and I think it's so funny, but they ask and I tell them I don't know what I'm having and then they say, "Oh, you don't wanna know?"
Usually I say, "Well, yes I want to know, but I'm waiting until I have the baby." because to me, it doesn't make sense. Like: I don't want to know? Of course I do! I've been wondering about that since conception but I'm just waiting! It's just a funny comment I think.
Most people also say "Oh, that's not too far away." when I tell them when I'm due. To me, 9 weeks is pretty far away but ya know...
At my family shower everyone asked who my "doctor" was and what hospital I'm going to. I got lots of interesting faces when I told them the answers.
From strangers, evryone tells me Im so tiny for being due in april.
Nothing else really. I did have a random person touch my belly recently. That was awkward.
Someone touched my belly recently. She glanced up at my face after she had her hand on my belly and said, "You're not one of THOSE that don't like people touching you, ARE YOU?" I was thinking to myself - well if I was, after the way you worded that question, I certainly wouldn't admit it...lol.
I get a lot of "when are you due" from the same people over and over and over. It drives me nuts! Then for some people I'm "so tiny" to be due in a few weeks and others say I'm huge. Oh, I also get the "Not long now, huh?" at work. I really want to punch those people in the face. My attitude lately is completely horrible at work and I'm ready to go out on maternity leave already. When I SAY that I'm ready to go out, then they fill me in with all the horror stories of having a newborn. While I'm thinking to myself, yeah but I don't have to deal with YOU. I know having a newborn is going to be hard. Plus, I know I only have 6 weeks or so left...but for some reason, this pregnancy has started to friggin CREEP by. UGH
Jessica I get those horror stories too. And jokes about how little sleep Im going to get. Little do most of these people know, Ive had insomnia since college. I typically pull all nighters at least once a month and when I dont I still can manage with only 4 hours of sleep a day. Im kind of looking forward to having someone to hang out with during my moments of insomnia!!
Also friends are telling me how its going to affect my marriage. I know all this stuff is probably true, but I sort of dont want to hear it. I mean why worry about it now? I am just trying to enjoy time with my hubs while I can.
Ok best comment Ive gotten in awhile, and maybe I posted it here, I cant remember. But I went to a bar for a friends birthday. And I was in line for the bathroom and this early 20 something guy said "whoa you are pregnant." I said "yeah why is that so strange? it happens all the time." He said he wasnt used to seeing pregnant women at bars. I just told him we like to have a night life too. I wasnt drinking or anything.
I go to bars a lot actually and you wouldnt believe the faces I get. And I posted on fb that I was at a pub and saw the current bachelor there (Sean for anyone who watches, he was with guys only). Anyways my friend commented "preggo and at the pub " Im not offended, but I just think its funny that people even bat an eye at that. Pubs have some of the tastiest food in town...I cannot keep my pregnant self away from some tasty fish and chips and bruder basil burgers. Haha.
Elizabeth, I hate when people say that this baby is going to affect my marriage in a bad way. I don't spend much time with DH as it is - he works typically 7 days a week and has school three of those days. On a normal day? He gets home around 5 and goes to bed around 730. On a school night? He gets home around 8 and goes to bed as soon as he finishes eating lol. Yes, we have 2 1/2 hours together on a normal night, but that's not including me being in the kitchen cooking or showers or taking the dogs out, etc..
So, to hear that people break up over babies just pisses me off. I know a lot of couples do get into arguments or whatever about how to raise kids, but I'm looking forward to the baby - I don't want to hear anything about people's marriages being ruined.
Also, I don't get much sleep, either. I don't have insomnia I don't think. It's just I can't fall asleep - even when I'm not pregnant. When I do get to sleep, I usually only get about 4 hours. So people telling me I won't get much sleep doesn't scare me either LOL
Oh - and about the being in a pub. I work in a grocery store and EVERYTIME I buy alcohol, people threaten to not sell it to me. I'm like, seriously? First off, if I wanted to go home and down a beer, I'm allowed. But second, I live with someone ELSE who likes a beer now and then and when my mom visits, she enjoys a glass of wine.
I was buying an iced coffee at McDonalds one day and the girl there said, "I hate to ask this, but are you pregnant?" I said "Yes..." I thought she was going to say something about how I shouldn't have caffeine but instead she gushed in a teenager way about how cute I was, etc.
I haven't had people really turned off by things. I've bought beer at stores before and stuff.
I don't get strangers touching my belly. I think it's happened once between both my other pregnancies and that's it. If I know the person, I don't mind.
Vicki...lol about the iced coffee. At work, I have a Mountain Dew every...single...morning. My OB said it was fine - to just make sure I'm getting enough water afterwards. I've taken to buying my drink VERY early in the morning to avoid all the "OMG, you're drinking THAT??" comments I get.
