Today

Well I had lots of contractions today. Some stronger than others. Kept thinking I should leave work...but work was so intense today I nearly had a breakdown and so I stayed until 8pm. A part of me hopes that I don't go into labor tonight if only to help the new guy get through this deadline. But an bigger part of me hopes I do go into labor so they scramble tomorrow and understand how much crap I do for them. 3x my boss said "you need to go home, but before you do can you change this, this, and this?" UGHHH. I'm so searching for a new job whilst on maternity leave. I can't believe 2 days before my due date they have me work a 12 hour day.

Sorry vent over.

I. Feel. Your. Pain.

The day I went to the hospital which ended up being birth day, I was still in the office trying to get stuff done, even though the office had said to come in immediately. It's a double edge sword when we feel such a loyalty to our work or our company / bosses but want to do what we need to do to take care of ourselves - dare I saw we be a little selfish and just want to work "normal" hours and do "normal" amounts of work.

It's funny.. We had a rep from the customer coming on 4/16 but we knew about it starting at the beginning of April.. I knew it was going to be a nightmare of a day due to the reason he was coming so I all but begged my LO to come early so I wouldn't have to be there that day.. just to make my boss have to deal with him. Only then would he know just how hard I work at what I do.

I guess Bram got tired of my begging for him to come early.. Wink And from what I hear, the boss was PIIIIIISSED about it. Oh well! I'm sure he survived. Wink

ETA - I told my boss that I will have to leave at the 10 hour mark each day because I have to pick up one of the kids. My husband isn't able to pick up both by the time each child care location closes. He was none to happy about that and his attitude about it has me looking for a different job currently. It's one thing to have an opinion about something but another to act like a spoiled brat about it. Grow a pair and be professional, ya big baby.

I can't believe your boss was pissed that you had a baby. What is wrong with our bosses? Does your boss have kids? My bosses don't have kids, plus one of them is a super intellectual/narcissim syndrome. He doesn't have a life outside of work and it perplexes him that anyone would want to actually go see a movie rather than do architecture.

I told him today that I thought the baby was coming soon, perhaps this week and he said sadly "ok well I guess we will survive without you." He does act excited that I'm having a baby, he just doesn't understand it.

Well I hope we both find jobs that are more family oriented. My DH's firm is so family friendly. I'm so jealous. How long do you have off? I have 12 weeks, but I know for a fact they will call me and ask me to work part time....they did that to my ex-coworker during her maternity leave. I'm just going to have to say no, because that would be impossible.

Well, this coming from a man that in my annual evaluation last year started it off by saying he didn't give an "ef" about my personal life. Our bosses sound VERY similar, unfortunately.. He has no life.. and while he has 3 kids, he has nothing to do with any of them and regularly complains about how it's their mother's fault they turned out like crap.

Um.. kids are part of their mother and part of their father. If you don't like how they are being raised, step in instead of stepping out! :pissed: I digress..

I only get 6 weeks Sad My boss has already been bothering me.. you should add me on FB - my status updates are quite comical sometimes. Wink ha!

Here's to finding more family-friendly career paths!! :bigarmhug:

I have BTDT...I didn't leave work until 7 or 8 the night before DS2 was born. Got home, exhausted and when I laid down for bed my water broke. My boss is not family friendly either and is a big workaholic. Makes it tough to balance work and family. Sad

That's really awful!! I hope both of you find something while you're on mat leave!

My boss is awesome, really. I will be off 7w3d haha.. weird huh? My boss said I could take as much time off as I wanted to. I have the time, I just don't have that much time. I have 9 weeks. I don't qualify for FMLA so I'm using my sick and some vacation time as well. I want to leave some also if I need it for sick time.

Adriana, sounds like your boss is even more of a jerk than Elizabeth's!

I agree with others and hope you find something else. I know with my boss and DHs it was awesome they were understanding and family oriented after we had my daughter because things come up and it just is harder if stress is added for work. I am out for almost 9 weeks and could take more but that would be draining my days for next year.

Wow, hoping you both find something more family friendly by the time you're ready to go back! That sounds awful. I like being a WOHM, but having bosses and a company that values work/life balance is crucial. Yikes for working a 12 hour day two days before your due date!

What is wrong with people? Why is it so hard to have some compassion for others?
I hope you both can find something more family friendly and easier on your hours/stress before you have to go back.

I hope both of you find something better! One of my vendors went out because he broke his foot - and his company (which is a HUGE very well known company) made him sign a piece of paper saying he wouldn't look for another job while he's out on disability LOL. I'm SO lucky to have who I have as a boss. He doesn't have kids, never been married - but he's very easy going with me. If I need to leave early, he always says okay. He's even come in (remember, I work at 4 in the morning) for me when I couldn't stop puking because of m/s.

Anyway, hope you guys find something else!! AND DONT WORK ON MAT LEAVE!! ...not that I can talk - I've gotten phone calls and texts from my relief the whole time..

Sounds like both of you have lousy bosses. I hope you can find something that is more family friendly. I was stressed about work until DD was born, but at least the pressure was self-imposed and not coming from my supervisor.

No responses from Elizabeth. Anyone thinking she might be in labor?

LOL, sorry to get you excited ladies! Nope I just had a worse day than yesterday. Woke up at 4:30am to get to work and got off at 6:30pm. Finished the deadline. Bossman was very grateful as he should be.

Thanks for listening ladies. I really appreciate your support.

And sorry Lynn that you are in the same boat. You are an engineer right? Civil or something? Can't remember which type? I work with lots of engineers. I know their schedules/work loads are similar to mine.

I can't believe how much you're working! You deserve every day of that 12 week maternity leave!!
