    Default Tylenol PM

Okay so I got a list of medications that are okay during pregnancy. Part of it was "wait till after the first trimester" and Tylenol Extra Strength was one of them but I've been getting headaches and my dr told me it was okay to go ahead and take it as/when needed. Tylenol PM is also one that is listed as "wait till after the first trimester". The only things that get rid of the bad headaches for me (pre-pregnancy) was tylenol pm and going to bed. My question is, if he said that extra strength tylenol is okay does that mean I can go ahead and take tylenol pm too? I have a horrible headache tonight and I was wondering what if I just take one tylenol pm and one regular instead of two tylenol pm?

    I'm dyin!

Tylenol PM is just acetaminophen and benedryl. Is benedryl on your okay list?

Yes, and I specifically asked about benadryl b/c I have allergies and he said it was perfectly safe first trimester or whenever.

Then I would feel safe taking it. The reason it is on the wait list is because of the higher level of acetaminophen (500mg instead of 325mg). If you had regular strength tylenol (325mg) and benedryl then take those to keep the dose lower.

(taking my RN hat off now.....)

My doc gave me a list too, but it wasn't sorted by trimester, so I assume that he considers all of the meds safe for the whole pregnancy. Tylenol, Benadryl, and Tylenol PM were all on the safe list.

Mine wasnt sorted either but it has astrics besides the ones that you should wait till after the trimester to take. I finally gave in today and called my dr and asked what I should do, they called in something for me but one of the main labels on it says "if you are pregnant or considering becoming pregnant then you should discuss your use of this product with your dr or pharmacist... yeah, that doesnt make me feel safe to take it at all!
