Update on us

I've been a bit MIA lately because life has been busy! This past week our water heater went out and we're waiting for a part so we had some hot water one day this week and that's it. I actually didn't realize how less we use hot water - we use it for showers and baths but DH and I usually only shower every other day and the kids 1-2 times a week. Washing dishes so we've just been using lots of paper and I boil water to wash in the sink. And washing clothes but it's not a huge deal to wash on cold for a bit.
Anyway, that's been a little annoying. Plus, Judah had an upper lip clip done this past week to hopefully help with my supply and his latch. I definitely think it has improved his latch because my one nipple is *finally* getting better. However, my supply is still the same - supplementing around 4-8 oz a day and still looking at ways to up my supply. I'm starting to think that there is physically something wrong w/ my body that I can't make enough milk on my own and looking into finding out what is wrong is something I'd like to do; I feel like it will at least make me feel like I'm doing all I can and I haven't made any big mistakes.
I got really caught up in the 6 week mark. That is when I was able to stop supplementing with my daughter and this time around we're not even close. Sad I'm hoping hoping that my increase in Domperidone dosage will help but it's way more than I took with Noel I'm pretty sure. And I'm paranoid that I'm still starving him; he's just gaining super-slow even though I've tried to make sure he gets enough. I'm going to do another weight check this week; I'm starting to wonder if I should buy a baby scale...
So that's been my life! On the outside, I'm doing fine. Dh has even said he can see I'm doing better with it. But I will never EVER give up trying to feed my kid as much of my milk as I possibly can.

I hope you can get your milk supply upped. It sounds like it's really bothering you Sad I'm glad you're doing better with it though - and that sucks about your water heater. My mom's water heater just went out too!

Low Milk Supply -- Finish at the Breast Method of Bottle Supplementation

Sorry you are dealing with low milk supply. Sounds like you are doing everything in your power to keep nursing. I'm sure you do this, but do you pump after he finishes at the breast?

So who did the upper lip clip? Your pedi? Henry still has latch issues too, sometimes its perfect and other times its just not right and I will reposition him and try to relatch him and he just can't do it right. This happens especially at night when I think he is less alert and I'm less alert. But I also can't help but think its maybe a tongue/lip tie issue. The LC I worked with a couple of weeks ago said there was no tongue tie, but she didn't check the lip. The pedi said the same thing and sort of made me feel guilty about considering getting it clipped. I might go to an LLL meeting tonight and ask the ladies there more about his latch issues.

Don't put so much pressure on yourself. 6 weeks is still early and I hear it can take 3 months for supply to regulate.

Elizabeth, are the new meds working at all?

Elizabeth, a pediatric dentist did it. I was referred to her by a LLL leader who said she had done them before.
You should be able to tell if he has a tongue tie or upper lip tie - you can google pictures of it. The upper lip one is just an extra piece of skin that connects all the way down the gum. I think sometimes it just takes time for baby's mouth to get bigger though. That was the case for my other two.
We went for a follow-up and he is totally healed and his latch is SO much better.

Joan, I tried to bottle feed him first one day and he sucked it down so fast he threw it all back up. Sad I'm wondering about those Tommee Tippee bottles though; I might try going back to the Born Free ones and see if they're any better. I know *I* have slow-flow nipples and I don't want him to get frustrated at my flow, which he does.

I have to admit, I'm not pumping afterward. Maybe I should just take a day and do that after each feed and see if it helps. I *hate* pumping and usually only do it if I have to feed him while we're out.
