So, the lady that is supposed to watch Julie called me today and said she was going to Florida the 14th and 15th. I didn't think much of it - I have vacation time left at work...until I figured out that that is next weekend and the schedule is already made at work and my "relief" is scheduled elsewhere.
Before I figured that out, however, I texted my boss and told him I need those days off and HE brought up the schedule has already been made. I apologized, said nevermind - I'll be there. He texted me back and said -
"You've had two months off of work and you're already requesting time off again? Must be nice. Some notice would be nice."
I said sorry (again) and said I'd be there. He continued to be a jerk. So finally I said - "I said I'm sorry, you don't need to be mean." He said he wasn't being mean (whatever) and he'd look at the schedule to re-arrange it. To which I said... "I will BE THERE, it's no big deal."
He definitely got my blood pressure up. I mean he was making this huge deal out of something I made a mistake about. I got my neighbor to agree to watch Julie with no problem, she was all excited about it..haha. So, it wasn't like I didn't fix the issue. It's just that I thought I had two more weeks until that date came around. I'm still freakin heated about it.
He's never been married and has no kids and he's almost 50, so I highly doubt kids are in his future. I didn't text him again, but I really really really wanted to say - I'm a mom now and my kid comes before work ANY day.
and...I don't know if he was being a jerk for real or just being himself. He's sarcastic and hateful, but usually so am I so we kind of get along. Maybe if I was in front of him to see his face and could really gauge his response, I'd be better because I'm so used to him, but over texts it just sounded crappy. I go back to work tomorrow. I hope he's off.
People just don't know how hard it is after you have a baby. Especially men! Sorry he was a total jerk. Glad your neighbor is going to watch her though :) Hope your first day back to work is good and that he is off!
That sucks man. I think you should definitely tell him up front that your baby comes first and he needs to be prepared for that. At least as long as that wouldn't make you lose your job... but if he really values you then he will have to understand.
He doesn't get it and he's probably not going to. I wouldn't think anymore on it. He's just going to have to get used to it. Personally, I wouldn't make a grand statement about your kid coming first. He's not going to understand. I would tell the sitter that you need to know when she can't be there before your work makes the schedule.
I agree with this. Unfortunately, making a big statement about how baby comes first maybe interpreted as "I don't care about this job." It shouldn't be that way and it should just be a given that your family has to come first, but making it into a big "stand" seems like it could backfire on you.

I agree that it is prob best to not announce that. I think deep down everyone knows this and when the things come up that is why usually bosses understand. Sorry it is more on your plate as you return to work.
