Weight Loss Support Thread?

I know that most of you aren't here yet (but you will be soon!) but I just hit six weeks pp today. My doc cleared me to start working out at six weeks, so I'm going to start the Couch to 5K running program tomorrow. I've done it before, and it really does work to get you running without completely overwhelming you and making you hate running. Honestly, there are other exercises that I like a whole lot better than running, but most of those involve going to the gym which is kind of a large time commitment when your baby is little and still nursing frequently. I like running for the one and only one reason that you can bang out a pretty decent calorie burn in half an hour, and no drive time to the gym is required.

Anyway, so I'm starting that, and going to pay more attention to my food choices, just making sure they are healthy but not restricting amounts because I'm breastfeeding and don't want to mess with my supply. I also want to start doing some crunches and leg lifts to help my tummy muscles. They were still a bit separated at my drs appt, and my doc said that would help.

My goal is to lose 20 lbs by the time Reid hits his one year birthday. Anyone else want to do a support thread with me (even if you need to wait a little while until you're cleared to exercise or diet?)

Hell to the yes, mama! Biggrin

Unfortunately..

***TMI!!!***

I'm still bleeding clots and can't do anything strenuous so I need to wait till those stop

*** TMI OVER!!***

But YES! I have about 35 lbs to lose.. should be able to get that done by fall if I *REALLY* work at it.. Christmas time at the latest. Right about the time to put 10 back on. ROFL

So what is this WL plan you're going to do? Never heard of it. Smile

I have done a bit of walking mainly because it helps get Emma to sleep. I'm going to see what the doctor says at my 6 week appt. I have until Oct to be in shape to take a physical fitness test. I'll be scored on abdominal circumference, 1.5 mile run, sit ups, and push ups. Basically, I have no choice but to get back into it. I still have about 15lbs to go from my pre pregnancy weight.

Yes yes yes!!! I will be 6 weeks this Friday but am starting with elliptical and stair thing we have in the basement tomorrow. I feel good and the weather is going to be great this week. I have about 50 lbs I want to lose total. Been a rough few years with ivf even for DD and I really want to get it all good now that I know I am done.

I use the app my fitness pal and it helped me lose 30 two yrs ago because my biggest issue is portion size!! Now I feel it is also boredome cuz I am home bored so I eat!!!

Let's do this ladies!!!!

Speaking of WL apps, which one do you use, Aimee?

Adriana - that sucks that you're still bleeding clots! Ugh, that is the worst part of the bleeding. I'm still very lightly bleeding, but not even enough to get on my panty liner, just enough to be annoying. The Couch to 5K is a running program that is designed to take a complete beginner and get them eventually running 3 miles. The good thing is that it starts slow and builds up your endurance. So like the first week you do a five minute warm up, then you alternate running for 1 minute and walking for 1.5 minutes 15 times. The next week you alternate running for 1.5 minutes and walking for 2 minutes. And so on. I figure that I can do ANYTHING for one minute, right?

Joan - it's kind of cool that you have a concrete set in stone reason to getting shape so you can't make excuses. It's too easy to say "I'll work our tomorrow..."

Aimee - I'm jealous that you have an elliptical. That is definitely my machine of choice when I can make it to the gym. I would rather do that than run, but since I don't have any home machines like that, I have to begrudgingly hit the pavement. Smile I use MyFitnessPal too. We should become friends on there! My user name is AlissaPlusOne because I started the account to help me keep track of carbs when I was pregnant. Smile

I would love to have a weight loss support thread! I've done pretty good so far getting back to pre-pregnancy weight but I still have about 50lbs I need to lose.

Love C25K! I didn't jog/run through out my pregnancy so I'm definitely going to need it to get back to it. Adriana, you can download the app for free! Oh and myfitnesspal has a free app also Smile can't wait to start back!

Adrianna the app I use is called myfitnesspal and like Alissa said we can all become friends to help us stay on track. I love it for so many reasons but the scanner makes adding the stuff so easy!!! I also use mapmyrun when I go for walks and stuff. At school we have a big hill that I walk during free periods sometimes going up and down and it tracks the incline and everything. The other thing about my fitness pal is that there is a computer log in too so you can see both.

Alissa I did the couch25k a couple yrs ago but I just hate running. Even when I am in my best shape running just doesn't make me happy lol. We bought the elliptical on ny day and got an insane deal. Idea was DH was going to use it until now then add me. He hasn't been but hopefully we both will get on track. I also have a skinny girl stair thing that I have never tried but DH got it for me since he knows I love the stair master or just doing stairs. my username is aimee1144 on myfitnesspal. I will add you!

I also pinned some workouts on Pinterest to try.

There are some squat, lunge and plank challenges I have friends doing that we could try. You do like increasing number for 30 days changing each day

Alissa how do I add you with your name. It says Facebook, contacts or email. Maybe the online version?

I'd love to lose weight (as I sit here drinking a Mtn Dew and eating Cheez-Its). However, I'm gonna be one of the later joiners. I have a feeling they're gonna have to cut me open to drain this thing underneath my incision, so that'll be fun.

Alissa I tried to add you using fb but it didn't come up that you had an acct. did you maybe use different emails for fb and mfp? Pm your email and I will add you that way haha

I know Elizabeth is busy but can we get a thread on the top for those of us doing this?

Alissa - I had to send you an invite, too. Didn't come up that you're a current user..

Aimee - my user name is italianimport78. Wanna friend me? Biggrin

ETA - Ok so losing 1 lb a week has me at about 1450 calories.. I'm supposed to be taking in at least 1800 for breastfeeding.. How's that work? Lol

Adriana how do you add with just the username? I couldn't figure it out lol. Need either Facebook or email. Also I thought someone told me that there was a way to program it if breast feeding... I will look into that more but if you do over the cals but lose weight during the time you will see it on the progress chart so I would shoot for the 1800 knowing why you are doing it

Ok so the only way that I can figure out how to add is through Facebook. Otherwise it comes up as invite them using email but I think it then just follows the person. I just sent an email invite to Alissa so we can see that way.

Adriana I went to the help section and typed in breastfeeding and it says there is no way right now to do that since every women's caloric intake is different but if you have an amt that the doc etc gave you it goes through how to change the amt of calories.

Ok, after a lot of fooling around I am finally friends with Aimee and Adriana. Woohoo girls! Lets kick butt! As for breastfeeding, I read that it burns around 500 calories a day, so I just added an exercise called breastfeeding that counts as 500 calories and log it every day so I can add those calories back into my net calorie counter.

Jess- just join us when you can, when your doc clears you. I think you are supposed to wait about 6 weeks to start working out after a vaginal delivery, and I bet it's even longer for a c section, so ask your midwife when you'll be ok to start.

Nidia - I love it too! If you are going to start running, that's definitely the way to do it.

Speaking of, I did my first C25K run today and it felt awesome!!! I'm not as out of shape as I thought because it wasn't nearly as hard as I remember it being when I started after T was born. It just felt really good. I'm psyched!

Alissa when I lost my weight after DD and I used myfitnesspal I would log my exercise but I did not eat the extra calories. I always tried to keep my food around 1200 and then when I got closer to a lower weight I would eat a little more because I started to plateau. At first I was eating the added calories and I was not losing weight that way. If I went over a little in a workout day it didn't matter but overall I tried to stay around 1200 and had huge success.

My c section is 6 weeks for working out which is this Friday. I did light working out up until now but not really tracking the exercise. I was cleaning some of my attic today and was sweating like crazy so prob had some exercise lol

I have to eat back my exercise calories or else I'm just miserable. When I'm not breastfeeding and trying to drop some weight, I eat about 1800 calories a day and make sure to get plenty of exercise which usually leaves a net calorie intake of around 1300-1500. I wouldn't want to go much lower than that tbh. I'm too big of a wimp to do serious calorie reductions. Lol

Aimee - Sorry that you had a hard day. Oh well, tomorrow is a fresh opportunity!

I had an okay day. Didn't get much exercise unfortunately, but I made good food choices. Going to try running again tomorrow to see if it totally wipes me out again. I could barely keep my eyes open by 9 last night and was a total zombie for night feelings. So, we'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Not sure how many of us like cooking with recipes but there is an app called sparkrecipes (has a pic of a whisk and bowl) and there are great healthy recipes on here. The other great thing is tons of these have been loaded into myfitnesspal so I just put the name in and it is there!!! Thought of this as I plugged in my whole chicken crockpot recipe for tonight that I got from the app!!

Thanks for the tip! I definitely need to start cooking more. The time around dinner when u would be cooking is Reid's absolute worst time of day. All he wants to do is nurse from about 4-7 every night. So we've been eating a lot of take out. But crock pot stuff or something I could assemble ahead of time and just pop in the oven might work. I'll have to check that out for healthy recipe ideas.

I was not great this weekend (esp yesterday!) but I still lost 3 lbs from last week! Breastfeeding rocks! I am now officially back at a healthy BMI, which makes me happy. I still want to lose more because I'm not at the point where I look and feel my best, but getting that generic label of heathy dies make me feel good. Biggrin

That's awesome Alissa! I still have so far to go... The year and a half of hormones with IVF really killed me and took over my body which is why I am so excited to know I am done and can just make it happen!

I'm ready to start eating right. I'm waiting on doctor's ok to run, but I've been walking.

Alissa, I always make dinner when I get a chance, vs. when it's dinner time. Often, dinner is done around 3 or 4, but it's better than not having anything because I usually don't have time come dinner time.
