Ack - maternity pants!

Why are these blasted things so expensive?! I have even tried looking on Ebay and Amazon. I don't know if it's just me being cheap but I refuse to spend $30-40 on pants that I will wear for 8-10 months. My belly is sticking way too far out now to wear my old work pants. The button is open a good four inches apart lol! I found one good pair at the thrift store for $5, but that's so few and far between. And I work full-time so I need more than one pair. Smile I have enough work shirts that are loose-fitted enough to serve the purpose, so that's good, but the pants are gonna get me.

Le sigh.

:lurk:
Try consignment shops, Goodwill, etc. They usually are in good condition.

BTW, you may end up wearing them after the pregnancy for a while, so it might be good to invest in some nice ones.

Depending on where you work - I have managed to get by with black yoga pants (without any obvious logos or striping) - with a nice shirt and new (not faded) pants, I think the style works in an office environment as long as the dress code isnt too strict.

Oh my gosh, girl, have you never heard of the belly band??? You MUST invest in one of these. I think they are one of the best little inventions that someone came up with. You can even buy the off brand off ebay and they're fairly affordable. They will make your regular pants last so much longer.

I know, maternity wear period is crazy, but that's why I always shop thrift stores (goodwill, salvation army, community aid ) and hit up yardsales and our YMCA every fall and spring has a nearly used sale. So, keep your eyes open and you can get good deals on maternity clothing.

I will definitely have to try that - I do have some long-ish sweater shirts and tops that would work like that. Nice! Thanks for the idea!

I wish they worked for me. Sad I got a couple for my first pregnancy and even tried them again during my second but they always let my pants just fall down. I was constantly pulling and tugging to keep my pants up and readjusting the band around them. And the band was as tight as it would be comfortable to have it. But I feel like if the band itself was any tighter I would have gone nuts lol! For some reason the fabric kept riding down. I think they are a great idea - I just wish they'd worked better for me.

So even though the belly bands don't work too well for me, I looked into alternative types of bands and found out that they make a button band type of thing. It is bascally a stretchy rectangular piece of elastic with a button on one end and a buttonhole on the other and you use it with your pre-pregnancy jeans/pants. It acts as an extender for the button on the front. It also comes with pieces of colored cloth (denim, black, white, tan, etc) that you can use to tuck in behind it so that your underwear is not showing through the open front. I am going to snag one of these off of amazon and try it out! I'll post pics if it works! Biggrin

I used an elastic hair tie around the button on my jeans last pregnancy. It lasted til about 20 weeks! I always spend the money for maternity clothes- I feel better when I wear nice-fitting and looking clothing, ya know? Macy's carries Motherhood brand and they are priced well.
