My name is Katie. I am going to cut and paste my intro from the TTC board so I don't have to type it over hehe. So here's a bit about me and my family:
I used to frequent these forums and was an active member during the pregnancies for my two sons, but I have been away for a while. Between working full-time and in school full-time, I got way too bogged down. I am 28 years old and my husband, Ying-Ta is 30. We have two boys from my previous marriage; Rowan is six and Cole Liam is three. We have wanted to have a third child for quite some time and have been actively trying for about five months now. I am from Virginia originally, although I have been in Maryland ever since I have been out of the Army. Ying-Ta was also in the Army, although that is not where we met. My husband and I met a few years ago at the hospital where we both work. I work in Pathology and he works in Biomedical Engineering. Ying-Ta also grew up in Virginia, but his background is very different from my own. His parents moved to the U.S. from Taiwan when he was very young. His parents speak only Mandarin Chinese and Taiwanese (with the exception of a few bits of English that they have dusted off and use for the sake of my being able to understand the conversation). His parents are very loving and welcoming (we haven't told them yet about the baby, so I am still nervous about that part). I guess that about sums up the basics about our little patchwork family.
On August 9th, I got a BFP! I kinda tested on a whim since I wasn't even due for AF for another five days, but it was strongly positive. I was so shocked I almost passed out and had to sit down on the bathroom floor to avoid the wobbly legs giving out on me. DH was knocking on the door asking me if I was alright and I couldn't even talk. I finally let him in and I pointed to the counter where the two dark pink lines were clearly visible. He goes "Is that...?" and I nodded, and he goes "Does that mean...?" to which I nodded again. He finally looks up and grins and says "Oh my God! I am a Dad!". I wanted to make sure it wasn't a fluke test (lol - does everyone do this or am I the only one who is this ridiculous?) so we went to the store after dinner and bought a different brand and tried again. Same results.
So, I am here and I am praying that this is the real deal. I have had two miscarriages in the past, my first pregnancy and the one in between my two DS's. I am waiting with baited breath for the next couple of months, but I am making a doctor's appt. today. I think we will wait to tell the extended family for a while. If, God forbid, something does happen, the last thing I want is to be visiting with them and know what is on everyone's minds when they look at me. That's the only thing keeping my excitement in check right now, otherwise I'd be shouting it out at work and everywhere haha!
As an aside note, I thought this forum would be bustling right now. It is super quiet. I hope things pick up soon. This place was a busy wonderland for moms to be when I was here for my two previous pregnancies. Hopefully it will become that again! Can't wait to meet other April moms! Ttys!
Congrates on your BFP!
