Im new to the board. I will turn 38 next month, I have never been pregnant. My husband and I have tried for over 2 years. Right now Im going thru the emotional mood swings of the "biological clock ticking"

Is it much harder for an older woman to become pregnant and what are the risk factors

Hi and welcome to the board!

I think it's according to each person. I've heard of some women of AMA getting pregnant right away and then we have other people that have been trying for a while. I'm not real keen on the risks expect that there is a higher miscarriage rate.

I wish you well!

Hi and welcome!

I became pregnant for the first time at 38, had my baby at 39. It took us about 7-8 months to get pregnant. I'm told it may be harder to get pregnant after 35 as some women don't ovulate as often. I have also heard that there is a higher m/c rate as well. It really does depend on the individual woman though.

It is scary starting this journey at our "advanced maternal age" - that's what the OB's call it. I worry, worry, worry. I worried during my first pregnancy, and I'm worrying TTC #2. That's what is so nice about coming here, because others are going through the same thing. Alot of decisions to make (pre-natal testing, advanced fertility treatments etc.).

Good luck with your TTC, and I hope you get a BFP soon!

Hi and welcome to the board. I understand the feelings of urgency that come with the age factor. Sometimes there are greater risk involved, but greater is the end result! :-) Baby Blessings to you! By the way I am 44 1/2 and TTC.

You are not alone. I am 38 and have been trying for 2 years. I also have PCOS and am taking Clomid. Thank you to everyone who is encouraging it really helps! I am a little afraid because of the age factor too, but my mom had a friend who had a child at 42. There is hope!!!
