First thing this morning, joseph had an eye appointment. He is DONE with the patch!! His eyes have been equal the last 3 visits.

The only thing now, is his right eye has some residual crossing, even with his STRONG prescription. So the dr changed his prescription even stronger, in hopes to get his eyes to look straight. Apparently if he can keep his eye straight long enough, it could strenghten and stop crossing. But the dr again brought up surgery if the stronger prescription can't keep his eye straight. I really do think its looming not far ahead, unfortunately.

But if it correct it then we can start weaning down the strong prescription too.

So we ordered new glasses and frames and they'll be in in January.

Wonderful news that he is done with the patch! WTG Joseph!! I will keep my fingers crossed that he won't have to go through surgery.

I haven't been around much so I was unaware of Jospeh's eye issues. That is good news! Yay sor stright eyes!

My dd, Erin age 6, is patching right now because of a lazy eye. She also patched when she was a year old for strbismus and had surgery just before her second birthday. Eye issues are no fun.

Lin--its nice to see you around! Sorry to hear Erin is needing to patch. It really worked for us though! Does she have to patch at school? I agree eye issues are not fun. Doe she wear glasses as well?

Right now Erin patches just two hours a night at home. And no glasses for her. She actually has pretty good vision except for the lazy eye on the left side.

I am so glad to hear that patching has worked for you.

We patched Erin when she had the problem with strabismus. She was just a toddler then and the patching was unsuccessful and she had surgery. I am hoping that patching will work this time, although I am not seeing good results at this point.

Yeah...the patching worked wonders for us on improving Joseph's eyesight. He started out at 20/400 in his right eye. He couldn't even see the largest E when it filled the whole screen and his comment? "its just dark" we were sure he was blind in his right eye! His left was at 20/25. After a year of the patch, both eyes are 20/25, with glasses, but his strabismus is still there and he'll probably do the surgery to tighten the muscle.

Joseph actually didn't mind the patches I made for him though, because I made cloth patches that slip over his glasses. They are really cute actually. Everyone commented on them in stores and said I should sell them...so we're actually starting a company to sell them online and to drs offices.

Hope the patch works for Erin and you avoid additional surgery!
