Okay does anybody know the rules of drinking while on clomid of course we don't want to drink after ovulation especially if there is a bun in the oven. But does alcohol decrease clomid effects. Anybody

I've never heard that before. I believe moderate drinking is o.k. before o'ing!

I'm not even a big drinker and I had such a damn hard day today I wish I wasn't in the 2WW so I could have one!!!!
Actually if I were you I'd be cautious b/c alcohol rises your temp and with the clomid maybe causing hot flashes it could make you miserable!
I drank with Provera LOL

Actually, if you couldn't drink while taking it, it would've had the no drinking label right on the prescription like they do for the metformin. Clomid and alcohol can be mixed in moderation.

I asked my nurse this same question and she told me that she would not recommend drinking while you are stimulating. HTH

Well actually I am on 1500mg of metformin just started this cycle but I didn't know I couldn't mix alcohol with it. And I work pharmacy.. Wow. I need to look into that

I made the mistake of drinking on the last day of Clomid one month, let me tell you....that was a huge mistake. I was an emotional mess, not to mention I was so mean and forgot half the stuff I said to poor hubby. Thank God I have a wonderful man that could look beyond what I said

Yep, I've had the label slapped on my metformin bottles ever since I started at 1000 mg. I think it may increase the risk of liver damage and heavy drinkers taking metformin are at risk of going into a coma.

Hey GabesMom,...I like your attitude! :drinking:
If I get my BFP this cycle, it'll be all thanks to Clomid and, of course, 2 Irish Wakes and 2 Red-headed ****s the night before O.
Hope my little eggie wasn't so drunk it swam bakwards! :oops2:

SOTOLISA, I can only tell you my experience and my 1st round of 50 mg Clomid, I O'd on Cd 19. I got a Peak on my FM on CD 17 and 18.
I usually O anywhere between CD 23-26, so 19 was great. I think it's probably still a bit early for you, but be sure to bd every other day thru CD 23 or so to be sure to catch it. Kepp trying OPK's (if it doesn't make you go broke) until you get a +.

No, drinking wil not affect the Clomid at all but, like some people have said, it could make your s/e's worse or it could be the opposite and make you feel a little more relaxed, at least that is what it does for me. I had a terrible moody day yesterday and was happy to go out and have a few beers.
As far as after O, yeah, they say do not drink in case you are pg and that makes the most sense especially for us that are trying so hard however, the truth is that the placenta does not attach until about 14 days after O (I am not a doctor so this is not exact of course!), essentially when you would get your period, so there is really nothing being transferred from the mother to the baby until then, when you will know if you are pg or not. So, if you do have a drink or two after O, you and the baby will be fine.
All of my friends who have children did not know they were pregnant, drank in that two weeks and have beautiful healthy babies.
Ask the doctor? Well, of course, what do you expect them to say? They recommend preparing the body for a baby, being as healthy as you can and we all know alcohol is not healthy-but it sure is good once in awhile!!

I read in a book I just bought called "Gettting Pregnant" that if you are trying to conceive you really should drink at all. I can't exactly remember why. I'll get back to you on that. HTH

In 'Taking Charge of Your Fertility' which, it sounds like most of us have and love, it states that tobacco 'decreases fertility' and caffeine 'effects your ability to both conceive and nurture an embryo' but the only mention of alcohol is that it causes Fetal Alcohol Syndrome when pregnant, which of course would only be an issue post ovulation and really only after the placenta attaches.
I think most doctors advise that and books say that because most women are not as in tune with their cycles as we all are and figure that telling them not to do it at all will prevent them from doing it if they get pregnant and do not know!
It does say, however, that alcohol may suppress sperm production so tell your DH's to stay sober! (Yeah, right! Mine would laugh in my face if I told him he could not have a beer!)
From all that I am going through with drugs and tests, etc., I would have to say, it is going to take a little bit more than limiting my intake of merlot to get this old broad pg!! :)

My doctor said that alchohol doesn't affect getting pregnant AT ALL. It's about 4 weeks after conception that you should refrain from drinking. If you think about it, look at all the women who get pregnant during a drunken night after the bar.

LOL I love you girls, so funny and true. I am definitely going out tonight for the first time in a while and drinking! I am a cheap drunk so it doesn't take much! I could either end up really relaxed and stress free for a bit or a complete emotional wreck, not sure which one yet!! I'm on day 3 of my clomid so that's probably not the best thing, but I'm going to take the chance for some relaxation!
Have fun ladies ;)

Oh Lisa,
That sucks! When ttc, fights usually happen at the absolute wrong time.
Hope you kiss and make up, if you want to, that is!

The verdict is in, Clomid makes you drunker faster. Wowsers! Now, I enjoy my cocktails and can down a few but last night we went out to dinner and I had a cocktail and a couple of glasses of wine and I do not remember a thing! WHAT?? That is so unlike me, it has to be the Clomid.
To top it off, I am starting to feel some O pain and coupled with a hangover, I feel like crap! :sickinbed:

Oh Lisa I'm so sorry that you had that argument. Hope everything is going better! And that's so true kimmy, the fights definitely happen at the exact wrong time.
And you are so right ahamill! I had a few drinks and I was SO drunk! Felt awful this morning, won't do that again (hopefully for a while ;) )

Well that's defenitily true. Fights always happen at the wrong time and it sucks cuz we only ovulate one day out of the month if that. And it so happens to be that date. Well so far no O pain what so ever that is what makes me think twice that I really haven't o'd yet just like last cycle. Hopefully I haven't O'd yet til like tuesday I'm gonna give him some time to kool off then I will make my move and get my BD on.. Lol.. Sounds bad doesn't it
