We had Julia's speech eval today...and I was right...she is fine! ha! however...for those of you that are worried...counted in the 50-200 words at this age...are sounds...and words that are meant to be words like didi for kitty...etc....sooo she figures that Julia...with her animal sound magerie...has about 40 words...which is mild delay...she also said her main concern is that she isn't putting to words together...like mama see or water please.....so she said that she feels in watching Julia and how communicative that she is (non-verbal) that she is getting ready to blow in the speech area...so if she doesn't start putting the two words together by the time she hits 2 and 6mos then she will start speech.....

she gave me some excercises to do with her to promote speech...and said to call if I have any questions...but she really feels she is going to play catch up in the next few months!

Excellent news!

In a few years you're gonna be like, "Will she ever stop talking?". hehe

That's excellent news, Joely.

Eliza is pretty much the same as Julia, but both Maeve and Aimee were slow at talking so I haven't been concerned. I do get tired of people telling me that I SHOULD be concerned, but when I show them Maeve and Aimee (who both have spectacular language skills) and point out that they were the same, they tend to let me be.

I've just come back from a party where there was a little girl who is exactly the same age as Eliza. She talks up a storm. And does it well. But there's Eliza, in her knickers, keeping up with the big kids, swimming like a fish... It all evens out in the end, I reckon.

Does Julia have a 'crutch' word that she uses when she can't or won't use a word? Eliza uses "Oush". Another little girl I know uses "Dida". It's quite funny to see the two of them chatting... "Look - Oush!" "No, mummy Dida" etc.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that Julia is fine.

I think sometimes I would rather Braden were more like Julia. Today after his bath I asked him if I could help him towel dry and he said "No mumma, I'm using this. No peeking" I have no idea where the 'no peeking' came from!? And apparantly he told one of the teachers at childcare (in response to her asking him if he wanted to say hi to his sister) "I'm not talking right now, I need afternoon tea" What is up with that attitude!!??
So all I can say Joely, is enjoy it, cause with you for a mum, she is going to be hilarious once she starts going.

So glad to hear this, Joely. I bet she will be talking up a storm before you know and you'll be wondering when it ends.

Leisa...that is so funny...because the S/T said Julia has amazing fine and gross motor skills for her age....I have always said that I figured her being a monkey....was the reason she wasn't talking! She does use the phrase Didi ALL the time...that is her "word" for all things!

Erin...my boy was like that...a hoot a minute...what kills me is 7 years ago when Isaac was 2-1/2 I had him tested through the school district is they said he had a mild delay...and I believe that Julia's "mild delay" is more accurate then Isaac...and he was speaking in toddler sentences...but had a very mild lisp!

Its amazing....how much they learn in two years....and the total difference there is between two children that comes from the same children!

Sierra's pretty similar to Julia too. She just in the last couple weeks has started putting 2 and 3 words together, but still has pauses between each so I think she's still within normal, maybe just a few months behind.

Would you mind posting or pm-ing me with what exercises they're having you do with her?

Thanks!
Charlene

Sounds like Mama knows best--as usual!

Still it must be nice to hear it confirmed. I agree it all seems to even out over the next couple years.

I'm glad to know the good news!! I bet she catches up soon! Don't they say the 2nd always talks slower than the 1st since the 1st is talking for them?

I hope the exercises work!!
