What is the best potty for boys? He shows so much interest in what we do on the potty that I think it's time for him to have his own.
Thanks!

I use a padded seat that sits on the big toilet for Cameron. It has a guard that pops on the front for boys, and it works every time. The guard is nice because he can't pull it off. I got mine at walmart for like $6. It is very similar to this:

That's so funny because we are also looking into getting one. Dylan loves to watch us potty and he is always saying "what's that" to everything we do. I sat him on the potty a few times....nothing happend but I want him to get used to it. He's starting to learn the sign for potty too. Yesterday when I sat him on the potty, he kept looking down at his penis expecting something magical to happen. When it didn't, he reached for the TP and I tore him off some, then he dabbed it down there. I about busted up laughing. It was so cute. So I am also interested in answers to this question.

I was thinking of getting this one - Peter Potty Pop Top and the My First Potty since we have a 2 level house.

When we first started training Carleena we got oneof the standard $15 potties from Target, and it was okay. As I started reading more and realized that I wanted my kids to be genuinely potty trained, able to do everything start to finish including emptying the pot I began my search for a better potty. Most of the potties that you buy these days have the pots under a seat and are pretty difficult to empty, especially for a 2 year old, but I found what I consider the perfect potty.

Elam has used it several times and the deflector is tall enough to keep him from "overshooting" but there is not the scary looking deflector that could hurt his "junk" if it got caught. I have read too many stories of potty training ending abruptly after a little boy gets injured by the deflector. Both kids can remove the pot and take it to the potty to empty and return it without help ( I wash them out a couple of times a day and disinfect daily) and it has worked out well for us. You can get the white version at our BRU but I got a yellow and green one at a "specialty" baby store near here for $23 a piece. I highly recommend it. It is sturdy, comfy and easy to use. It cannot be used for anything else (big toilet seat, stepstool, etc) later, it is just a potty, but I am happy with that.

Thanks for the info Amanda. My step mom is going to buy Dylan his potty....I sent her the link. It's nice to know that you had a good experience with it.

We have a Sesame Street seat that's designed pretty much like the Bob the Builder one. Larry asked for it almost a year before he actually used it full-time. Had we actually obtained a genuine Bob the Builder seat, I bet he would have trained a year earlier! :D
These seats are good if your child isn't afraid to sit up high on the big potty and the plastic design holds the seat firmly to the toilet. They're portable for traveling -- just put it in a plastic bag and pop it in the diaper bag. They also wash clean easily and I must admit I like not having to clean out the "bowl" in a standalone potty. We also have a 1950s-era wooden potty that was my mom's from childhood (my family keeps EVERYTHING!) but Larry's never liked using it. Maybe Ramona will.

We have the same one that you do, I bet, Erin. Our is Sesame Street... just like Stephanie's. I've put G up there a couple of times but nothing. She laughed at first but when I can tell she has to go and I put her up there she has freaked a few times so I just take her back down. Not yet!
Oh, the other night though - I think I scared the pee back INTO her because I had just gotten her naked for the tub and was checking to see if the water was the right temp. She was standing right next to me and pee shot out onto my foot and I yelled because it surprised me. She got HUGE eyes (bigger than normal LOL) and got all fussy. It was pretty funny.

I'm with Amanda. The Bjorn one is the best stand-alone potty for boys out there. I/we LOVE it!! It doesn't have any bells and whistles, but they would just distract L from what I needed him to do anyway. We had a different one, and the guard was like a torture device, scary. I just wish I could find something similar one for on the big potty. He's using it now, and if I'm not keeping an eagle eye on his junk, he'll pee all over
