I never was on the shot. I believe it can take a little longer to get out of your system. Hopefully someone here can provide more insight or check out the sticky detailing everyone's experiences.

I was on depo for 9 years. I did not get AF at all while I was on it. Last year before getting married, I was reading more and more how women that had been on depo had trouble getting pregnant. Took most women a year or two to get pregnant. I thought I would switch to pills so that I would hopefully start to get AF and regulate my hormones. I did get AF and had regular cycles. I went on pills in August 07, so my last depo shot was in June of 06. I stopped taking pills in April of this year. So, it has been a year and 4 months since my last depo shot and 5 months of being off the pill.
I found out 2 months ago I had a cyst in my R ovary. The Dr. gave me progesterone for 10 days to shrink it (it was the size of a softball). The R cyst shrunk, but the small one in the L ovary got bigger. The Dr. could not explain that. A couple weeks went by and I went back for an u/s, both cysts were shrinking on there own. He told me to do O tests for 2 months, if I do not O, that means I still have cysts in both ovaries and have to go back in to see him.
I asked him if being on depo for so long is why my hormones are still so out of whack and that is why I am getting these cysts. It was like a light bulb went off in his head. DUH!!! He did not say that, but I know he wanted to. I had NO IDEA being on depo could screw my hormones up so bad. It is truly a matter of time and my body regulating itself. I would get off of depo and onto pills ASAP. Even if you are not ttc. Depo has shown to lower bone density if on it for more than 2 years. (I had a bone density test and am OK)
I hope this is some help.
