So I just have to brag about Mark...
he applied for his PhD at UC Riverside and this summer, the dept. courted him with lunches, seminars, TA-ing, etc. Well, he got in, which is half the excitement but we just found out that he is getting paid.....
$21,000 :shock:
He was awarded this super prestigous fellowship and not only does it cover tuition but with a pretty liberal stipend every month. He is not TA-ing any class. His only stipulation is that he maintains a 3.5 GPA.
We are so proud of him. This is from a man who dropped out of high school and ran into trouble when he was a teenager. I honestly think that his humbling background has made him who he is now and is able to cherish all of his accomplishments.
