UPDATE:
Well things went downhill really quickly yesterday afternoon. Hanna's bp went way up to 190 over something and they had to start her on mag. sulfate. They got her bloodwork back and her white blood cell count was very high indicating and infection and it also showed her liver enzymes were high (i think whichever is bad) indicating she was indeed eclamptic. So they started her on pit at 1 pm and checked her, she was not much of anything actually having gone backward from the 2 she started at. They were afraid they may have to do a section b/c of this but were willing to see how things went, they were pretty sure she wasnt going to deliver until the next day. At 3 they checked her and she was 7! They put in the epidural and at 4 she was complete! No one was ready she said she felt alot of pressure the doctor turned around to look at her and caught little Delaney Lucille!! Unfortunately they were very off on her weight she was only 2lbs 14 oz. She was breathing upon delivery and my cousin was able to see her but not hold her before they took her to the nursery. I am very happy to report she is still not on oxygen, which is pretty miraculous for a such a tiny baby, probably due to the steroids and the fact that she was 34 wks even though she was tiny. She is in an open air warmer but for some reason they wont let them hold her and said it would be a few days yet. My aunt that I talked too (she has just talked to my other aunt Hanna's mom) said they dont know why and neither Hanna or her mom ask many questions so who knows, hopefully there is nothing wrong?? She has an i.v. and hasnt eaten yet but they said they want Hanna to pump to get rid of the colustrum and get in reg. b.m. and then they will feed her some b.m. and some formula together (no idea when) right now she has a pacifier as they dont want her to cry as it will burn calories. My aunt says she is very active though squirming and kicking her legs. So praise the Lord she is here and relatively healthy!! Send some good thoughts her way though!

For my cousin. She just turned 21 and is having her first baby (which was a total accident she had an IUD in and got pg anyway). Her fiance is in basic training and due to be back in about 10 days I thin, which is very hard for her. Anyway she is just shy of 34 wks and her water broke yesterday. I just saw her this weekend and they were watching her very closely then as she had many risks, her bp is high, she is quite overweight, she has PCOS, her mom had a history of early births (35 and 36 wks), and she had been dialated to 2 for a month already. They had her in for NST every other day for these risks plus the baby was frank breech and then transverse and had been having heart decels and accels but she (her name will be Delaney) was rebounding well after those they thought maybe there were due to her position. With all those things I am shocked that she wasnt on bedrest (my aunt who works at the ob here said she would have been here) but they only took her down to half time at work, I wonder if they had if she could have made it longer. At first they were going to try to keep her pg for a few more days but have now decided it is best to get the baby out. She has thankfully turned to head down now so unless she is in major distress (she had a few more decels but is ok now) she will be delivered vaginally today. My cousin has recieved antibiotics and steriods to help the baby's lungs mature. They are hoping the baby is far enough along that she wont need any help breathing. At the u/s last week she was est. weighing 5 lbs so I hope she really is that big! Please pray for the best for my cousin Hanna and her new daughter Delaney!!!

Well they have decided to keep her pregnant. It seems they want her to go as long as she can w/o giving birth. I talked to my grandma last night and again this morning and they are still just seeing what happens. She is contracting a little bit about 20-30 on the scale (I think it goes to 100 doesnt it?) so they arent bad contrax. Yesterday they gave her a sleeping pill and put her to sleep which IMO is dangerous b/c the baby was put to sleep too (what if an em. c-sec was called for?) but she was very anxious and feeling some pain so they thought it was best. They havent checked her for fear of infection but she was 2 already so she might be more. I am assuming she was just leaking fluid (my grandma says she has continued to do so) and still has enough for the baby in there. I am really worried though, about infection. There is no way she will make it to 36 wks so why dont they just take the baby now and not risk the infection? They already think she is a good weight and the steroids are in. My aunt who has been a medical assistant at the obs here for 25 yrs says she has never seen them do this with an almost 34 wker before. Unless the baby is really premature they deliver within 24 to latest 48 hrs later and Hanna's water broke at 5pm on Monday!! Keep good thought and prayers I really hope and pray that baby Delaney is healthy when she is born!

My sister had a similar situation with her youngest, she fell down the stairs and her water broke, but it was just a leak. She was about 35 weeks, they kept her in the hospital for another full week, I can't remember exactly what they did, but somehow they managed to prevent infection (she must have still had plenty of fluid), and they wanted my nephew to grow that bit more. He was born at 4lbs 11 oz at 36 weeks, and was very healthy, so I know it is possible to go a while after the water breaks with no complications. I'll continue to pray for them, kup

Every day they can keep that little girl inside is worth 3 or 4 days outside. The risk of infection is pretty low as long as they aren't doing internal exams and she's still making plenty of amniotic fluid. I think in this situation it's not the baby in danger of infection, it's the mom, and they're probably giving her antibiotics.

Whether the baby was "put to sleep" by the sleeping pill depends on what the medication is. Some medications can't cross the placenta so they won't affect the baby at all. I don't know off-hand if sleeping pills do that or not, but I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the situation was dangerous, kwim?

I'll be keeping your cousin and Delaney in my thoughts!!! :bighug:

Sherri-that is comforting to know that your sister had the same situation and everthing was ok. I am not sure how they manage not to get an infection. My friend that delivered at 24 wks had an amnio a few days after her water broke (hers was caused by labor though) and her fluid was infected so they had to take the baby, though they thought that her labor wouldnt be stopped for long anyway.

Stacey- I agree it probably depends on the meds but still it seemed risky to me. When I was 34 wks with Alec I wasnt sleeping hardly at all. The MW said it was safe to have Ambien or something similar w/o the meds harming the baby. However she did caution me that if I were to for some reason to go into labor before the meds wore off the baby would be depressed (I believe that is the right term) and might need some help when born so I didnt take it.

Thanks for the update! That's great that she's breathing so well, that alone is a huge step in the right direction! I'm curious why they want your cousin to "get rid of the colostrum" since that's probably the best thing for her baby right now.

Stacey-I wondered about that as well. My aunt and I were talking though and were wondering if maybe it had something to do with the drugs she was on maybe they were afraid they were in her milk still? She was on some for b.p. even after the birth I know as well.
