Sorry Irrelevent Vent to the cyber world ears!!!

I have to apologise, I don't want to use this board as a place to vent - but I really don't have anywhere else to go at the moment, and if I don't vent I will explode. My DH is a wonderful father and great guy - despite his upbringing, but when it comes to special occasions he sucks.
It is his birthday this Sunday and I am just sooooooooooooooo annoyed at what he is saying and wanting for this day.
He has requested the day to himself. He wants the house empty of children and myself so he can just chill and relax. He says that he doesn't get enough time for this so it would be a lovely gift.
I have just asked him whether he would like his birthday cake at lunch or tea as his children would like to celebrate with him - he doesn't want this. When I explained that perhaps his children would like to sing happy birthday and do the cake thing the answer that came back was "I think of everyone else all the time, time to think about me!!!" So obviously I am going to spend his birthday taking the kids out (ooo it is a Sunday and he will have been out all day Saturday) and bring them home for lunch and sleep and then out again. Try and explain to them we give daddy a present (he got himself a remote control helicopter) but we don't sing happy birthday or do anything with him.
AAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarggggggggggggggggg this is not the man I fell in love with.

Vent away! I find these boards a very healthly place to be honest and let it all out!

I'm sorry about your hubby's request. I know I would be hurt by that and hurt for the LOs. :bigarmhug:

Yep, feel free to vent here! That's what we're here for, support and understanding.

That really sucks. I get what he's saying, but I don't understand why he isn't willing to let them sing him Happy Birthday and spend 5 minutes with them. What a bummer.

In the end his birthday was lovely and he spent it with us all. One thing with my DH that I have to remember is that he had a disfunctional family who hated anyone who was not within the family. They never celebrated birthdays (except one brother's 21 st, which apparently ended with DH's father entering the back yard and telling everyone to get the f home - at 9 pm!!!!
DH is negative before any event and once it happens it is wonderful. He had cake and lots of kisses and is learning Smile
