Baby stuff

I have been trying to get on the boards every couple days or so, though I dont post too much... so this may have already been put out there but how is everyone coming along with baby shopping? When we got our tax return I went ahead and knocked out pretty much all the big ticket items (crib, changing table, double stroller and 2 car seats)... I still want a good breast pump- if anyone has any suggestions on that, I will take it. I never really pumped too much with either of the two girls. I just breast fed until work became an issue for me. Other than that, I really dont have anything. I never had a baby shower for any of my pregnancies, and this one wont be different... I am sure my in laws will send gifts of mostly clothes but I was thinking about hitting up the consignment shops and thrift stores just for onsies and pj's which is what they will mostly be in the first couple months anyway. I plan to buy the Dr Browns bottles again - I had those with DD#2 and I liked them alot. And I want to have a good or decent size stack of diapers already on hand whatnot... but really I have nothing but the furniture and stuff so far. Also, is there anything that you all suggest having - luxury type baby items that just made your life so much easier - in your experience or advice youve been given? (ie bottle warmers, diaper genie.... not luxury as in Juicy C strollers LOL)

I've ordered the crib, mattress, dresser and change table - they'll be here next month. I've started purchasing diapers to have a good stock on hand. I've also purchased a few neutral items because I just couldn't help myself! I won't be buying any more clothing, etc. until I know the gender (which will be in two weeks)! I'm in the process of looking at different travel systems, swings, high chairs and playards. I think I found the set I'd like to have and most of that will be a gift from my family (as soon as I decide for sure which one we want, they've already said they'll buy that for us as their gift)! That's all I've done, though! I'm sure once we know the gender, things will be underway!

Aden and Anais swaddle blankets. I, um, "borrowed" blankets from the hospital for DS, tried to make some Walmart receiving blankets work for DD2 but with this baby I am buying the crem de la crem for swaddling and for me that's Aden and Anais swaddle blankets. Swaddling makes a world of difference for my babies so I'm splurging this time because that's really all I need for this new baby. I have the rest leftover, it's just a matter of finding it and getting it cleaned up.

We've gotten the crib, the mattress, the bedding (only because the set I wanted was about to be discontinued), the glider, the portable crib and the stroller/carseat *whew*. I feel really good having the big ticket items done with and I can relax. Everything else I'm counting on getting at the baby shower or shortly there after. My mom has been getting baby clothes every time she passes even remotely near the girls baby clothes isle because, well, its her first grand daughter and she really just can't help herself! LOL!

I have a ton of used stuff that I got from my ex-SIL (crib, swing, high chair, bouncer, walker), I still have the changing table that my mom made for me when I had my twins, and still have my breast pump that I used with my other three. DH and I went out last month and bought a stroller and carseat, we're using my old dresser that is sitting empty right now, and I have been buying clothes here and there, now that I know that it's a boy. Smile Furniture-wise, all we really need at this point is a new crib mattress and changing table pad.

In April, the local twins club that I used to belong to has a huge used clothing and equipment sale (they take up an entire gymnasium!) and I plan to stock up on a lot of things there - onesies, clothes, blankets, maybe a carrier or a sling (I apparently didn't save my sling from my DD, though I SWEAR that I did - I can't find it!), a baby monitor, and anything else I can think of.

Since I've decided to CD, I'm not stocking up on diapers like I would usually do, which is kind of nice, but it's driving my mom batty! LOL

Military Mom: As far as what I would really recommend for you - get 2 bouncers!! They're relatively inexpensive, and well worth it with twins!! When you just can't be holding two at once, I found that if I popped them both into bouncers and bounced them while sitting between them, it really helped with the crying... Mine and theirs! LOL And if you are pumping and bottle feeding, you can easily feed both of them at the same time by setting both bouncers in front of you and holding both bottles.

As for a breast pump - I swear by the Medela Pump in Style. I used it with my twins, my younger DD, and will be using it again this time around. Best pump in the world!

You know, every baby is different... I only had one swing, and it worked out just fabulously. One of my twins really loved being in the swing, the other preferred hanging out in the bouncer. But having the 2 bouncers was def. essential to my "survival" those first 6 months!

I definately second the Aden and Anais blankets! I got mine at target. Definately worth it!
