Breech Babies

In general, do breech babies take longer for labor to begin? Could I still lose my mucous plug and have other signs of labor? Can breech babies drop? This is all just out of curiosity... The baby is still breech and I am still going to the OB consult on Monday; but, just wondering if it's still possible for me to go into labor before a c-section is even booked (usually by 39 weeks).

yes, breech babies can still engage and push on the cervix, they just do it with their rear ends instead of their heads. And because of that, you can still lose your mucous plug and all that exciting stuff.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think I remember hearing that breech babies tend to start labor more often with broken water bag. I can't for the life of me remember where I read that though. I probably only remember that little tidbit because of my 3rd baby being born breech and my water breaking to start labor. Also, one of my close friends had a breech baby and her labor started with water breaking, 2 days before her c/s was scheduled (first baby for her) and by the time she got to the hospital she was already a 7.

Okay, I think I've asked before but are you going to talk to the OB about waiting for labor to start before doing the c/s? What breech position is your LO in, frank or footling?

:lurk: Ds was breech and labour started for me with my water breaking. They di drop and engage, we think that may be why all my attempts to have him turn failed, ecv, bowen therapy, spinning babies techniques, chiro you name it i tried it, expect for accupunture and moxibustion because a) i am terrified of needles and b) ther weren't available locally. It appears ds may have dropped down into my pelvis not long after he turned breech, i felt him turn just before 37 weeks and he had been way head down the week before at my midwife appt. Have you spoken with your doctor about possibly trying an evc, i know with my ob i had to suggest it, he didn't.

*lurking* I had two breech babies, my last one I ended up going into labor on my own at 36 wks. My water didn't break, just contractions and dilating Smile So for sure it can happen Wink

I know you already have your c section scheduled...but did you ask your doctor about trying an external version? I would ask about that as a last resort if you can.

The doctor and I discussed it and I decided against it.
