coming out of lurkdom after a rough start

Hi all,

My name is Samantha. I am pregnant with our third child, due Aug. 15th. I was really active on DS#1's birth board in April of '06, not so much so with my second son.

I got a positive pregnancy test the first week of December, but I was also spotting and cramping. I have a GREAT OB who is very cautious, so he had me come in. He did blood work and confirmed the pregnancy and had me "take it easy" until the spotting stopped. In the meantime I went in every other day for blood work to make sure my levels were rising. At 7 weeks my spotting had stopped and DR. found a sac via ultrasound. At 9 weeks, no spotting, no cramping, bad nausea, my doctor did another ultrasound and found a healthy little bean with a heartbeat! A few days later, I went to the bathroom to find massive amounts of blood. More blood than I have ever seen. I thought for sure that I was having a miscarriage. We went to the ER and they did an ultrasound there and MUCH to my surprised was a little baby with a heartbeat! I saw my regular OB the next morning and he told me that I have a large Subchorionic hemmorhage...basically a huge blood clot between my placenta and my uterus. It had ruptured and torn part of the placenta away from the uterine wall, but baby looked good. I also have a low lying placenta that we are hoping moves up as my uterus grows. So, I was on bedrest for a few days until the bleeding stopped and I am now on "limited activities." I had another ultrasound last week and found out that the clot is shrinking, but my placenta hasn't moved. I see my doctor again on Tuesday.

So, that's been my past 12 weeks...lol. I didn't have complications with my other two pregnancies, so this is new territory to me.

So anyway, nice to "meet" you all and I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome to August! I had some really scary bleeding shortly after I got my BFP. I was pretty sure with the size of the clots I was mc'ing as well. I have a subchorionic hematoma as well. The bleeding and spotting has stopped for me as well, thankfully.

Glad to hear things are going better for you now! Good luck with the placenta moving. With baby #3 my placenta took most of my pregnancy to move.

Welcome! I had a SCH with #2 and it caused enough bleeding that I was sure I was having a miscarriage too. It started about 13 weeks and had healed by 20 weeks. It was very scary but in the end following doctor's orders and resting helped me make it through. I hope the clot continues to get smaller and the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly.

Hi Samantha! I had a Subchorionic bleed (same thing as you) this pregnancy also. It is very scary. I am 10 weeks and the u/s this week showed that it had completely healed itself.

Congrats on your baby and healthy heartbeat!!!

Thank you for the warm welcome (and the compliments about my boys...I'm a little crazy about them!)

I had another ultrasound yesterday and baby looks great. The clot is still there but shrinking, but my placenta hasn't moved at all. So, I am still on "limited activities" until I see my doctor again in 2 weeks. BUT he said at that ultrasound, he'll try to see gender! YAY!
