hernia

Hi,
Abram's umbilical cord fell off...looks fine, but the belly button seems bigger to me and when palpated feels like a ring (opening) and hernia...I could be completely wrong, but why the HECK wouldn't they notice that...can those come after?

my niece had this... I'll have to chat with my sister to see how long it lasted, but I know it went away on it's own.

Clara had one. It wasn't there at birth, came on the following week or two (I can't remember for sure) but it went away on its own and wasn't anything our ped said to worry about.

:lurk:

All 3 of my kids have had this. Ds1's was pretty big infact and didnt fully go away till he was about 3.5. As long as its soft, you can push it back in, and it isnt red or inflamed, its fine. A lot of kids have this, and as long as it repairs itself by the time they are 5, and dont have the problems i mentioned before, theres no need for surgery or any medical treatment Smile

One of my twins had an umbilical hernia. We didn't notice it until she was a week or two old - I don't remember exactly. But hers grew huge and had to be surgically repaired when she was 6 months old. They kept telling me it would go away on its own, but it was obviously painful for her, because once she had the surgery she was a totally different baby - she went from being fussy and crying all the time to being the happiest baby in the world. I had to push for the surgery at the time, but I'm very glad we did!
