I passed! But...

I had my 1 hour glucose test yesterday and passed with flying colors! However, I'm borderline anemic... which totally explains a LOT. I have been SO TIRED this whole pregnancy - I have just felt like I can't possibly ever get enough rest no matter how early I hit the sheets at night. So, I am on a mission to get more iron in my diet since I really don't want to take iron supplements.

I have a feeling that it goes hand in hand with the fact that meat hasn't appealed to me at all this pregnancy. Just last week I started trying to ramp up my protein intake, so hopefully that will help with my iron levels, too. Unfortunately, choosing meat over something else still really takes a lot for me. It's weird because I am a total carnivore usually - I love meat. But this pregnancy is totally messing with my appetite and taste... blah!

So does anyone have have suggestions for high-iron recipes or snacks?? And any suggestions on how to make meat more appetizing?

This is exactly me! I did start an iron supplement, though.

Here is what I found when doing some research on it... some I already knew but didnt know about the vitamin C part Wink Hope it helps... as far as making meat appealing - depends how you like to eat it... I would say esp since its summertime, fire up the grill! To me, everything tastes better on the grill YUM!! LOL

Red meat
Egg yolks
Dark, leafy greens (spinach, collards)
Dried fruit (prunes, raisins)
Iron-enriched cereals and grains (check the labels)
Mollusks (oysters, clams, scallops)
Turkey or chicken giblets
Beans, lentils, chick peas and soybeans
Liver
Artichokes
And here's a tip: If you eat iron-rich foods along with foods that provide plenty of vitamin C, your body can better absorb the iron.
