Let's talk baby names!

Since so many of you have already found out the gender of LO and there's really only a few left waiting to find out (besides those of us that will need both gender names from here on out), let's start talking baby names.

Do you have baby named yet?

Are you and DH having issues agreeing on a name?

Are you telling everyone the name when/if you do figure it out?

Do you mind sharing your name lists?

Are you completely ignoring the name issue until much later (this is the route my DH has chosen to take LOL)?

And anything else baby name related you'd like to talk about.

Okay, let's chat!!!

I felt really lucky because we had our boy/girl names picked out way before we got pregnant. Since we are having a girl she will be Sophia Taylor. There is a slight chance when we go back to our 22 week ultrasound that they may say "oh just kidding, that is a boy!" in which case he will be Jack William. But so far it is looking like Sophia. I admit, I wasn't really keen on the name Sophia for several reasons but DH had wanted that for his daughters name since pretty much FOREVER. We decided on Taylor after a very good friend of mine who passed away (and who I know will always be watching out for our LO).

It has been so nice to be able to call her by her name instead of just baby. My grandmother keeps hinting she wishes we where having a boy but SO SAD TOO BAD! Her other grandchild just popped out a little boy so she can get her fill with him! LOL! Every time she calls she says "Cause you know...if they say it is a boy, that would be okay with me" *eye roll* oh really? "So do you think because the baby is kicking so much now that it might be a boy?" No...Im pretty sure girls kick too.

*lesigh* I think its because she had two sons. She just knows boys better I guess.

Probably, though I bet you ANYTHING after the next ultrasound she will start telling me stories of people she has heard who "they said one thing on the ultrasound but then when she had the baby, it was the other!" And she is very fond of repeating stories so...yeah. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE her and more than anything, I find this denial she seems to be in amusing. And I know once Sophia gets here she will be happy as can be and crazy over her. I think she will be happy to have one of each. Just like I said, I think she knows boys better than girls.

We had settled on Hunter Sean previously. This is a name I had picked out before for Hayden but decided to change him to Hayden Reece.

When we found out it was for sure a boy on the car ride home we decided on Gavin Nicholas. Gavin is not real common around here and Hunter is. Nicholas is for my cousin Nicholas Shane who passed away in 2008 after being hit by a drunk driver. He was the light of our family.

And yes, everyone knows. I am not good at secrets!

we have a list but we haven't narrowed it down yet. We will eventually. We never actually decided 100% on William's name until after he was born, so I'm in no rush. I know it'll happen.

We don't share names. We have too many opinionated people in our families who are not afraid to share their likes/dislikes so I prefer to wait until baby is born. DH and I decide between ourselves and everyone else finds out when we announce our child.

DH and I are pretty sure we are set a name for a boy and a girl! We've been throwing around other names and keep going back to the ones we liked initially (I think I've already been thinking about LO with these names and am kind of set that this is who he/she will be)! We've shared these names with a few family members and all have liked the names, too! I'm just having a little trouble with middle names... I'm really anal about names and having them sound good, etc. I'm unsure about naming after family members - especially, if I don't necessarily like the name; but, the grandparents kind of automatically assumed that we would do this... We are thinking Kendall if it's a girl and Lucas if it's a boy (I know this is a common name; but, it's grown on us)!

As I've said before, I expect to find out the name of this new little one by Christmas. No rush on naming for them. Last time the insurance people were threatening cutting off medical coverage if they didn't hurry up and name their child... LOL! I figure DD needs to get things settled around the home, get nursing and diapering figured out, get a few bits of sleep etc, before she'll have time to focus on a name. That doesn't mean they won't be thrilled and happy though!!! They usually have a party for family the day after the new one is born. Sarah is in PJs and everyone fights to hold the new baby and tries to come up with the perfect name. It's a riot!

Well my husband hates my first choice but I think he starting to feel like he has to give somwhere haha because I feel like his names are HORRIBLE!! Smile I like Emmett and Esme (and of course I am a Twilight fan LOL) and also Isabella and Immanuel. He likes Isabella and Immanuel but not Emmett and Esme, although I told him it will grow on him. Plus he named Ariana, so I told him it was my turn. I like names that start with vowels (kind of my own theme). My oldest DD is Odessa. And I kind of want the twins names to flow a little, ya know? Anyway, thats what we have come up with so far but not set in stone. Once we agree and set it in stone, I dont mind to tell everyone Wink

Hmmmm. There's often a compromise, like Esme and Emmanuel for example.

I love that combo!! You know, when I was pregnant with my twins, I wasn't actually intending to name them "twin" type names, but we settled on Gabriella for one, and then Isabella just kind of fell on us for the second. Lol

This little one is giving us naming trouble, but I have always had trouble coming up with boy names that I actually like. Right now, we are settled on the middle name, because it is DH's middle name, too. And he is bound and determined that the first name is going to start with a J, which is making it tough because there are actually very few J names that I like. I love Jeremiah, but DH has already shot that one down. He really wants Joshua, but I have a cousin named Josh. We've also talked about James, and that's my dad's middle name, so that would be kind of cool, but it's also my uncle's name and my ex-BIL's name. LOL But right now that's my number one choice.

Obviously we're nowhere near being set on a name... LOL

And my guess is that we won't really tell anyone until the baby is born... I have WAY too many opinionated people in my family who won't hesitate to knock our choice. But once the baby is born, they'll just have too accept it. LOL

What about Jackson? I LOVE this name and, if my SIL hadn't named her son Jaxson, I would have totally used it!

I love Jack for a boy name but that was my grandpa's name and he isn't what I would call a stand up guy so it's a no go for us using. I have Jackson, Jordan, Josh and Jessie nephews Smile Yep, brothers. I also just heard Jasper lately and it's kind of growing on me.

I sort of like Jackson, but it's WAY too trendy right now... I've always tried to stay away from trendy names. Unfortunately, Isabella was like the 3rd most popular name the year she was born... but at the time, I didn't know ANYONE with a girl names Isabella. Now there are 6 of them in her grade, and two in her class. *sigh*

I like the name Jett, but unfortunately a couple at our taekwondo gym just had a baby boy 4 months ago and named him Jett... ROFL I can't be a copy cat!

Can I ask why DH wants it to be a J name?

DH is avoiding the baby name talk. Usually I have to get him in the car for a really long drive where he can't get away, pull out a pen and paper and force him to make some decisions Lol Actually we still have some leftover names on our list from the other kiddos.

As of right now our top girl names are (in order of how much I like them) (the middle name is Mae after my g-ma and mom)
Delilah
Maggie
Molly

Boys names
I'M STUMPED but I do have some that I kind of like
Sawyer
Brooks
Noah

We'll go in to the birth with a few of each names since we're not finding out the gender.

He wants the baby to have the same initials as him. *sigh* I asked him why we didn't just make the baby a Jr, and name it after him... but he thinks that would get too confusing...

Tell DH you'll give the baby the first name Junior ROFL J as the first name, problem solved!

Our little girl's name is going to be Penelope Jane! I had both a boy and girl named picked out before we even got pregnant. DH is happy with the name and so are our family and friends! DH and I have been calling her Penny for short!

Melissa, how about Jeremy. It's close to Jeremiah.

So Melissa, you may laugh, but we have a friend who is named Junior.
I like: Jeb, Jarrod, Joel, Jay and Judd...

I'd steer away from Jacques (my Dad's name) and Jean (my brother's name...he got accepted to a girl's dorm in college LOL) Jesus and Jereboam..... but that's just me!

Yeah, I've already threatened with DH to name him Junior... ROFL But really, yeah, not so much a fan... Wink

I like Jeremy, too - not as much as Jeremiah, but DH doesn't like it.

We were actually talking more about this last night when we were laying in bed, and we talked more about the name Joseph, so we can add that to the list, now. Both DH and I like it. And Gardenbug - believe me, we've already gone through and discarded all of those names... though maybe I'll bring Joel up again - it's close to Joseph, and I like it a lot! I forgot about it until you wrote it!

:lurk:
Melissa--I come from a family with all J names. Two of my brothers are Jeffrey and Jaron. Jarrett was also favorite, but didn't get a chance to be used. Good luck coming up with something you both like.

I've got more boys names then I know what to do with! lol DH wouldn't talk about it until we knew the gender, now he's just being lazy about it. I even got a names book from the library because he said he didn't know where to being. When I asked if he had any ideas yet he said "No, I haven't looked. But I haven't seen you look in the book either..." Of course that's when I produced the list of them I've had since DS and he just rolled his eyes.

For DS my fave name was Jasper Quinn, but DH shot it down, said it was too southern sounding for a half Chinese kid (is this where I point out it's family name on my mom's side, who are all from Mississippi???) I'd still like this name now but DH still doesn't like it.

DS wants to name him Wyatt, which DH and I both kind of like so it's a possibility.

My list for first names is:
Wyatt
Drake
Damian
Jasper
Micah

Middle names:
Asher
Ian
Ethan

So many possibilities! With Wyatt I love all 3 middle names since they are softer sounding, helps to break up the tt's of Wyatt and T in Tran. The rest I like with one or two first names, but not all. Oh decisions! Plus I really like Hunter and Chase, but DH has said he doesn't those, so I'm trying not to think about them too much.

ooo, I do love the name Joel too. I haven't heard that one in a while. An acquaintance of mine has a little doll of a son named Joel.

I have a nephew named Jarrett. I have lots of nieces and nephews though which makes this naming thing even harder. I have 27 nieces and nephews and another one due just before me and a new great nephew coming sometime next month. That's a lot of already taken names Smile
