Midwife Heard 2 Heartbeats! I'm freaking out!!

So, Thursday night I had a midwife appt and she said "Your uterus is pretty big for 16 weeks", so she listened with a Doppler and then had me hold another Doppler on another area and she thought she heard 2 heartbeats! Well, my mother's father was an identical twin and I'm really nervous about this and can't get an ultrasound scheduled until Monday!

My problem is that the OB she usually has her patients go to for an U/S if needed told me a few weeks ago that they wouldn't see me (as a backup) unless I was only their patient. The girl said "we don't do that anymore" and I told my midwife and she said she'll talk with him because she always sends her patients there if they need an OB. Because I was way anxious and freaking out, I called 3 other OB's and NONE of them would see me either! It's like I have leprosy because I'm seeing a midwife and doing a home birth.

So, if they won't schedule it Monday, I'm going to just ask her to write a script and go to an imaging center or hospital. It's my 2nd child, so I'm hoping my uterus is just measuring bigger because of that, but she's delivered so many that I think she knows what she's doing and especially since I thought I heard 2 heartbeats also, I'm kinda freaking out!

Does anyone have any experience with this or any advice?

Oh boy! I hope someone will see you ASAP! It's kinda exciting/freak out to me. I've got no experience with it, but I'm wishing you all the best! Let us know what happens when you get the US.

There are two sets of twins posted above on the August sticky. I think it may be somewhat of a surprise for you, but given family history, certainly not out of the question! Fortunately you all have time to adjust and prepare should twins be in the cards. This would certainly be something to be joyful about. You'd get plenty of support from the other Mamas here I'm sure. Best wishes!:neonflower:

I'm not sure where you are but most of the hospitals here do ultrasounds too. Perhaps she could just order the test with the local hospital?

That's very exciting but a little scary too. I hope it works out for you, keep us posted.

Yeah, if they won't schedule me tomorrow morning when I call the OB, I'm going to just get a script from her & go to the hospital or imaging center. I can't take this, I'm so stressed anyway ...BF of over a year decided he's not ready to be a father, so I'm on my own for this one Sad

All I can do is see what's going on in there and take it one day at a time!

My DS's father walked out on me 3 days after he was conceived. He has never had anything to do with us. Until I met my current DH I was on my own. I know that it's tough and there are lots of struggles but you can do it. The good thing is you can focus on you and the kiddo(s). There is a great group of women here to support you too. Smile Hang in there.

My suggestions is Google ultrasound clinics in your area. I'm military and don't want to wait to find out the sexes so I looked up some stuff online. I found a 3D/4D clinic that does gender reveal as well ... They aren't booked out and it will only cost $45 ....so if you don't mind paying a little, it'd be worth it if it will put your mind at ease and let you know once and for all if its twins or single. Good Luck!!

PS we did fertility treatments so we knew multiples was a possibility and I still felt super overwhelmed but now, weeks later, I am excited and feel more prepared so just know if twins is a reality, you can expect some "Freaking out" but its a blessing Smile I feel God won't give you more than you can handle .... But you couldn't tell me that the week following the news lol

Hang in there, girl!! Were you able to get one scheduled today?

So, first of all, take a deep breath. The fact that your grandfather was a twin actually does not increase your chances of conceiving twins any bigger than the rest of the population. Twin conception is almost certainly only hereditary through the female - though there are studies that are suggesting this is not true, so far they have been unable to find a reliable correlation between fathers and heredity twin conception. If your mom was a twin, now that would be a different story. So maybe that will help you feel a bit better??

And if you do have twins, whether you are doing it alone or with a partner, you WILL be able to make it through! We have two other twin moms on our board, and I have 8 year old twins, so there is a lot of support here, too! It's tougher with two, but you can handle it - God will only give you as much as you can handle!

Anyway, keep us updated and hang in there. Smile This is a great group of ladies, and we'll be there with you every step of the way. Smile

It's only 1 baby!!! Smile

But, I was hoping to also find out the sex, but the cord was between it's legs and with it just being the basic ultrasound, it wasn't clear enough to see what was near/behind the cord Sad

So, I'm thinking of doing a 3D ultrasound to check since I don't plan on getting any more ultrasounds done at a doctor's office. The imaging center by me does a 3D/4D ultrasound and you get pictures...anyone know how much better the 3D/4D is than the 2D?

Congrats! Biggrin Glad you're relieved!

The difference between a 2D and a 3D/4D ultrasound is huge... I've never had a 3D/4D u/s, but I've seen plenty of pictures. They're cool - but I think they're a little creepy. Lol But if you want to find out what you're having, it's definitely the way to go!

YAY! I'm glad the outcome is what you were hoping! I'm also still on the fence about 3D/4D ultrasounds... I know some think they're "creepy"; but, I think seeing your LO's little features and having a sneak peak at what he/she will look like is so amazing! I wasn't going to have it done since we can find out the gender during our 18-20 week ultrasound; however, I've heard so many stories lately about people being told they're having one gender and giving birth to the opposite! I think the 3D/4D are supposed to be more accurate; so, I'm debating on having both just to confirm the gender...

I did reply from my phone, but it must not have gone through...only one baby!! And it's a girl Smile

I was thinking/hoping boy, but my daughter is super excited to have a little sister coming and I will get to use some of her baby clothes! (she was born in winter, so unfortunately I can only use the spring/fall stuff and onesies)

I'm just relieved it's only one! haha
