OB Consult

So, I hadn't heard from the OB clinic re: the c-section consultation all week. I had my regular weekly appointment with my doctor this morning and the receptionist phoned to find out what was going on since, if they're scheduling it, I only have two weeks left. Apparently, they didn't even receive the referral... The receptionist faxed it over again and was told they would look at it right away and get me in. Since my doctor's office closed at noon and it's a long weekend, I took the contact information for the OB clinic to phone this afternoon. I was basically told by their receptionist that referrals are usually made between 24-28 weeks and, since my referral was sent in so late, I might not even be able to get in... Ummmm, WHAT? I have a breech baby with two weeks left to go! She told me to take it up with my doctor since she was the one that faxed in the referral so late. First of all, who knows at 24-28 weeks that they're still going to be breech (unless you're just opting for a c-section)? Secondly, do I not get priority over those women who still have WEEKS left to have their consultation and book their c-section? I'm not just a little p***ed off, I'm royally p***ed off! I'm terrified of going into labor with a breech baby PLUS my GBS swab came back positive - this makes me extra anxious! For those of you that have had to schedule a c-section before, is this the norm? I don't see how this can be right and how they can justify not fitting me in!

That sounds off to me. I would get on your doc's office to talk with the OB office since they were part of the mix up.
As far as c-sections, they can fit you in because they reserve space for emergecy c-sections all the time. I had an unscheduled c/s with DD1 and had never met my OB before that surgery. Well, I met him like 20 min before so he could chat with me and give me the run down of what would happen, but not formally as an OB appt or anything. Not ideal, obviously, but if you present with contractions and you are breech, I would assume they will find a way to fit you in for a c/s. KWIM?

Per my post on the gbs thread - I wouldn't worry about being positive. Not a real issue to be concerned about.
Re referral - I can see being very pissed and stressed about this! I hope your doc gets I resolved ASAP for you.
And remember - try not to stress! I always think of the stress hormones and assume they are not helpful to the baby so try and be as calm as you an all things considered.

Good luck!!!!

Yeah, I totally understand that they'll need to do a c-section regardless! It just blows my mind that this is how the system is working right now... I really hope it's settled when I'm able to phone to doctor's office next week!

Lurker!

Both my babies were c-sections, with my youngest (jan 12) I had a c-section scheduled for the 30th of january and I went into labor on the 17th and they did the c-section within 3 hours of going into labor, and it wasn't scheduled! I would try not to worry. Wink

I understand why you're peeved but honestly try not to stress about not getting in yet. It's really not worth the extra effort to stress over something not in your control at this point. It'll all work out in the end.

I think you are in Canada right? I am not sure how it works there but I know in the US every hospital has an "OB on call" - so even if you don't get to see your practitioner and go into labor and they decide you MUST have a c-section, there should be someone available to do it.

I know it's not an ideal situation, especially without having met them but at least you'd be covered.

I hope it gets sorted out with your doctor and your OB soon. As far as the GBS+, you'll get an IV for a c-section anyway.

I finally got a call with an appointment, for Monday, after my doctor's office pretty much forced them to fit me in! We will see what happens! I feel like the baby is constantly pushing up with his head toward my ribs and that, if he has head down, I would certainly be close to something happening! It is frustrating and I am ready to be done! haha
