So as I've said I am tentatively scheduled for induction on Sunday if baby doesn't get here on her own by then. Aside from the fact that I am SOOOO anxious about birthing in the hospital, Im also starting to really get nervous about the methods they are talking about.
The method they want to use is the balloon catheter to basically open the cervix and then odds are I will STILL need pitocin on top of that! Im still doing everything I can to get this baby out on her own, but part of me knows I need to get accepting that this induction could happen. Im just having such a hard time wrapping my brain around this catheter plan. It just sounds so abusive and invasive and okay yeah, Im really getting stressed thinking about it! Has anyone been induced with this method? Any words of comfort?
As for my natural attempts, my father just went to this local pizza place that is known for its Prego Pizza. Women swear it puts you into labor so I just chowed down two slices of that! And tonight I think I am going to suck it up and make myself a castor oil orange and vanilla ice cream smoothie. I have contractions last night and have been walking extra and breaking out the breast pump to encourage them (and oh notice my surprise that Im actually getting milk as a result of working the girls). Today my abdomen is tender, crampy and definitly feeling pressure (though no serious contractions). Im really hoping this pizza puts me over the edge and if not, damn it the castor oil better! NO CATHETER PLEASE!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!
I took my castor oil shake (OJ+CastorOil+Vanilla Ice Cream+Ice) at 7pm and have pretty much been in labor since 8pm. I was up all night with contractions that where 1-3 minutes apart but because I had little to no bloody show my midwife had me stay home. By this morning the contractions where 5-7 minutes apart and my midwife advised me to spend today resting up and to let her know as things progressed. My bloody show has gone from pink\brown to some red so we are making some slow but steady progress. My contractions however have slowed to 15-30 minutes apart but I am contributing that to the castor oil being out of my system. I take this as a good thing because I think my poor little baby needed a break from the night long constant contracting. I will be checking in with my MW again later and am hoping to continue seeing steady progress. I have a feeling I am going to be laboring for a while and that is fine. She has said that as long as I continue having contractions and the baby stays active, she is not going to move me to the hospital, so there is something positive. Will do my best to update again later on!
Just spoke with our MW. She has advised me to get a good nights rest and see if the contractions pick back up during the night. If by 4-6am they are still far apart and inconsistent I can either try another dose of the castor oil or go ahead with the induction plan scheduled for 4pm. Im really not sure I have it in me to go through the castor oil route again so we shall see how things look in the morning. She says judging by the heavy contractions I had through last night, it is likely my cervix has changed enough that I won't need the catheter and probably just a small amount of pit to get things rolling on track if I do the induction route.
So keep an eye out and one way or another this baby is going to be here tomorrow!
Contractions picked up again last night but slowed again by morning. Am heading to the MW to get checked and will know from that whether we will be at the Birth Center or heading to the hospital at 4. Either way, bags are in the car and Im not coming home without LO!
