Water-breaking Paranoia

Thanks to my little sister now I'm paranoid to go to the pool! DS and I got 3-4 times a week for several hours...it's the only way to cool off! So of course my sister felt it prudent to point out how bad it would be if my water broke while there...especially if I were in the pool not hanging on the side, because I wouldn't realize it.

She did it jokingly, but of course then I started thinking about how bad that really would be. Now I can't get it out of my mind. Argh!!

No kidding!!!

I think you'd be all "why is it suddenly really warm around me, and I'm not peeing". hahaha Same thing can happen in the bathtub. Chances of it happening, PRETTY SLIM!

I Agree - the chances are slim. And in my experience, you actually can feel your water break - I certainly did when it happened to my in my first pregnancy. It's almost like a "pop" from inside of you... so even if it did happen, that, along with the fact that your water would continue to spill out little by little even after you get out of the pool, would let you know that it had happened. Don't let your sister's comment keep you from enjoying your summer days at the pool!

:lurk:

I agree with PP. If it were to happen, you would know. With DS2 my water broke at 4 am when I was in bed... I knew it was happening as it happened and bolted out of bed before it hit the sheets. If you havent felt it before then it can be nerve racking, but once it does happen, you know Wink

Yea, you would know. When my water broke with DS it felt like there was a small balloon that popped there. It wasn't extremely painful or anything but very awkward feeling. Not a feeling you'd mistake for anything else! And you can definitely fill the rush of fluid that comes out afterwards.

Why didn't she tell you the cute fun stories? Women have their water break in all kinds of situations, and by and large, all the women surrounding them get really excited and emotional...and helpful! You can choose to be embarrassed, but really, everyone else is thrilled to share the excitement. So don't stay away from LIVING because something normal just might happen.

I agree with PP's, especially gardenbug! You'll know if your water breaks just like they say you will.

I had not considered this. I did wonder if I would know if my water broke in the tub or not. But oh well I still plan to hit the pool with DS.
With DS the doctor broke my water and it was a very odd sensation and noticeable gush/ pulsing of the water coming out.

I never thought about that either... and well with both previous pregnancies, they had to break my water at the hospital. I think at this point you are still ok to go to the pool and that it probably would be noticeable as the other gals said, it would be warmer than the pool water Im sure.

I've had to have my water broken too, first time I was ready to push, second time I was induced. I would think if you're not at risk for pre-term labour you'd be ok. Also, after your water breaks, I'd imagine contractions would start not to long after.

Or... it could take it's sweet time and you could have a sleep over in the meantime! hahaha

My sister's water broke around dinner time and she didn't have any contractions until the next morning.

I agree!
DD#1's H20 broke RIGHT OVER THE TOILET! LOL! I bent over to pee at 4:30 am and I felt a pop/gush...I was wide eyed...bent over again, felt a woosh...and any time I'd bend over it would leak out.
