I called my MW yesterday because I'd been having some spotting off & on for 5 days. Majority of the time it was brown but a couple of times it was pink/red. I didn't call right away because with DS I also had some spotting around 8 weeks and was basically told that if something was happening, at that point there's nothing that can be done. And I would only notice the spotting on the toilet paper, never on my underwear. My pg symptoms were still there - sore boobs & nausea kicked in, but since it was continuing on every day, so I gave them a call. Of course my MW wasn't there so I saw one of her partners, who I actually really liked. I really didn't want anything internal done if she didn't feel it was necessary - I really felt things were OK but wanted someone to reassure me. And any time, especially early pregnancy, I have anything internal done - I spot even more!!!
Anyway, she wanted to do an exam. She did great, I hardly felt anything, but she did say that I have an area on my cervix where the blood vessels are clustered kind of like a strawberry spot. She couldn't see any bleeding, and actually I haven't had any spotting since then, but she said it's very likely that's what the cause was. Could have been aggravated by DH & I dtd 2 days before the spotting started?
And just to be safe, she wanted to do an ultrasound. I've never had an u/s this early & there really isn't much to see But, she said everything looked great. Size matches with my EDD by LMP. Heart beat was 124. Only thing abnormal was a large cyst on my right ovary, which I've never had problems with before, so I'll have to ask my MW about that at my appt in Feb.
It's a relief to know that everything is OK!!!
So glad you got good news!

ds Zachariah is 5 (Jan '08 ) 5lbs 4 oz, 19 inches @ 38.5 weeks
dd Annabeth (Aug 2 '13) 7 lbs 5 oz, 19.75 inches @39.5 weeks
Glad you got good news and baby is okay! Just to throw my two cents in: I had a cyst on my right ovary as well. Apparently, everyone has a cyst on the ovary that they ovulated from. It nourishes the baby until the placenta takes over and starts to feed the baby and then the cyst goes away, normally.

At 8 weeks, you might still see the luteal gland, and it would not be surprising to find it enlarged due to fertility treatments. But even if it's a cyst that shouldn't be there, they are not uncommon and usually shrink and disappear without a problem. If your MW is concerned, she'll let you know.
Yay for healthy little bean!
