HI! My name is Liz. I'm married to Andy (4/2005). We have two children, Elijah (6.5) and Charlotte (almost 4). I am a stay at home mom, homeschooler, and I start college full time in Spring 2014!
We are so excited to be welcoming a new little baby into our family. The kids ask several times a day when the baby will get here! haha, time for a lesson in patience I guess.
My husband is a paraplegic and he NEVER expected to be able to have children as he was married before and they never fell pregnant. We have been EXTREMELY blessed that it has been easy for us to get pregnant.

I'll try to update this more when I actually get on the computer and not my
Hi, My name is Heather. I am due August 13th!
I have two children. A son, 11 & daughter 6 1/2. I am divorced and have been with the Love of my life just over 2 years. He has two children, daughter almost 9 & son 7. This baby was a "If it happens, it happens" sorta thing. Very happy it did! I really think it was our 2 year anniversary gift! LOL
I got my BFP on Dec. 20th. Complete and utter surprise to my husband and me. We already have a son who is almost 3. We tried to get pregnant for the last two years with no success. Of course, a few months ago we decided to give up the baby hopes, and gave most of our baby stuff away. And of course I get pregnant! I am 37 and my husband is 39. We are cautiously excited. We know there are a lot more risks at my age. First doc appointment is Jan. 16th. We have our fingers crossed everything looks good. Happy to be here!
Conception: Early November??
Positive test: December 20th, 5:00 pm
First appointment, 8 weeks -- January 16th, 7:30 am: At my first appointment, she did an ultrasound right away. Surprise!!! I'm a lot further along than I thought! Baby measured at 11 weeks, 5 days during the ultrasound!! We were in total shock. I had a ton of heavy bleeding on Nov. 20th and it lasted for about 5 days. Very crampy as well, so I thought there was no way I could be pregnant. Heartbeat was 162.
2nd appointment -- January 17th, 7:45 am: Follow-up dating ultrasound to confirm my new due date. Baby is measuring at 12 weeks. My new due date is Aug. 1st! I gained a month! Baby looks healthy and was very squirmy. They couldn't find any evidence of a hematoma or any reason I would have had a heavy bleed like that. I must have conceived in early November with a heavy bleed on the 20th, and a ltitle bit of blood on Dec. 2nd. Their best guiess is that I was pregnant with twins and I lost one. That makes me sad, but I never thought I'd have another baby, so I'm so grateful for the one I AM having.
2.5 appointment -- January 22nd, 11:30 am: Met with the Genetic Counselor at the Perinatology Clinic. We went over our family history. We also opted for the non-invasive first trimester screening and ultrasound. The ultrasound looked good - baby has a nasal bone and the nuchal fold was a normal measurement -- .17 cm, I believe. The first trimester screening consisted of a blood test that is 99% accurate in detecting Down Syndrome and Triosomy 13 and 18, and 98% accurate in determing the sex of the baby. Can't wait to hear the results!!!!!
Update January 28th, am: Genetic Counselor Jina called me to tell me the good news that the baby tested negative for Down Syndrome, Triosomy 13 and 18. And she said, "You're having a little girl!" Yeah!!!!!! So happy and excited to have one of each. The test is 98% accurate so they will confirm at the 20-week ultrasound. GO TEAM PINK!!!
3rd appointment, 16 weeks -- February 12th, 1:00 pm: Met my new doctor. She was great! Very thorough. I'm measuring right at 16 weeks and my blood pressure was 118/58. Baby's heartbeat was 145 to 150. Yeah! So great to hear that each time. Everything is looking good. She said I was not showing any antibodies in my blood since I had that big bleed on Nov. 20th. If the baby's blood is RH + there was a possibility of that happening. Since it was negative, I'll just get my Rhogam shot at 28 weeks like normal. Next big thing is the 20-week ultrasound!
4th appointment, 20 weeks -- March 12th, 12:45 pm: 20-week Level II Ultrasound. She's still a girl! Everything looked great. No 2-vessel umbilical cord. We have a 3-vessel cord. Yes! And everything else looked good. Heart, etc. She is measuring at 19 weeks, 1 day, and I was 19 weeks, 5 days at the day of the ultrasond, so within range. She weighs 10 ozs. Her heartbeat was 131. Her legs looked long and the 3D pics were amazing. I got all teary-eyed during the 3D. It just felt so real. Like, I'm going to have a daughter. I haven't even thought about what all that means yet. So happy our little girl is looking good. I have a bit of a weird placenta, though. The doctor said it's variegated. Shaped like the shoreline of a lake instead of an oval. It's mostly on the front right and high, so I will feel kicks lower down and to the left, which I have been so that makes sense. I have felt some little bumps and kicks, but not too much. Doctor said the funny placenta shouldn't affect that baby, so that is good. I just wonder if it has something to do with all my bleeding at 4 weeks. It may have affected my placenta. I will have to follow up with my doctor on that. So, I'm halfway there!!
5th apointment, 21 weeks -- March 20th, 8:30 am: I had my follow-up doctor's appointment to my Level II ultrasound from last week. Everything looks good! Blood pressure was 100/60, weight gain was 4 pounds since my last appointment, and baby's heartbeat was 141. I'm actually measuring almost 22 weeks. My doc assured me this baby would be bigger than DS, simply because of the normal umbilical cord. Hopefully not too big or I will be heading in for that C-section!! So, over all a positive appointment. I did ask my doc about my "placental lake" they saw on my ultrasound. She said the perinatal doctor noted that they didn't see a reason for follow-up. It's basically a place where blood had pooled and dried up. As long as it doesn't get larger, it shouldn't affect anything. One very interesting thing that came from my appointment was that the perinatal doctor noted that I have a bi-lobed placenta. "Bilobed placenta: Placenta with two equal-sized lobes connected by a thin bridge. No identified risks of this structure." BUT, my doctor said the fact that I have this kind of placenta makes them suspect even more so that I started out pregnant with twins. One twin for each lobe of the placenta. That, combined with the placental lake and my heavy bleeding at 4 weeks. It's hard to wrap my mind around this idea. It's one of those weird things where I don’t know if I should be sad or not. I mean, it is sad, but not knowing I was even pregnant changes things, too. I've just decided to think that if it was a twin, maybe there was something wrong with it, and that's why it happened. I mean, baby girl might be missing her other half! I just feel lucky she hung on in there.
6th appointment, 25 weeks -- April 16th, 3:20 pm: I had my 24/25 week doctor’s appointment yesterday. Kind of bummed. My blood pressure looks good, 104/60. I've gained 3 lbs, since my last appointment. Baby is kicking away and her heartrate was 125 to 135 bpm. But I was measuring just over 23 weeks when I am 25 weeks tomorrow. At my last appointment I was measuring a week ahead, and now I’m almost two weeks behind. Doctor wasn’t terribly concerned, but she said because I have the placental lake, and the odd-shaped placenta, she wants me to have a growth ultrasound at 32 weeks. I guess the placental lakes are “dead spots” in the placenta and can restrict growth in the baby. I didn’t have my first growth ultrasound with Sheldon until 36 weeks, but since I’m over 35, they want to start checking this baby earlier. If the baby seems small (which I can almost guarantee she will be) then I will have a follow-up ultrasound at 36 weeks. If she still seems small, they will talk about taking her early. I have to confess how bummed I am about this. After finding out the baby had a 3-vessel cord I was so happy we wouldn’t have to go through all that extra monitoring and stress and worry again. But now I feel like history is repeating itself. Maybe I’m just feeling sorry for myself right now, and I will get over it, but I’m definitely not looking forward to the stress and worry this will bring. Pat and I have already discussed that we may decline to have the baby taken if she is measuring small. Since my first baby was small and perfectly healthy, we’re not sure it’s the right thing to do to take this baby early, either. I would rather begin the NST and Biophysical profiles and keep a close eye on her like we did with Sheldon rather than have her taken early. So, we wait and we hope for good things.
7th appointment, 28 weeks -- May 15th, 7:20 am: Had my 28/29 week appointment today. My BP was 102/60. I've gained 5 lbs. since my last visit. Baby's heartrate was 148 bpm. I'm measuring at 27 weeks when I will be 29 weeks tomorrow. My NP, Addie, said she wasn't concerned because I was measuring 23 weeks at my last appointment, and that shows progress, though I'm not measuring right on with how far along I am. I had a Tdap shot and my Rhogam shot. I also did my Gestational Diabetes test. I passed with flying colors. The range is 50-134 and my blood sugar was 84. Yeah! So, that is behind me. My next appointment back I will have the growth ultrasound and see where baby girl is at. For now, she's kicking away and I feel good. Hello 3rd trimester!
8th appointment, 32 weeks, 6 days -- June 12th, 8:30 am: Growth ultrasound. Baby girl looked great! She is measuring at 32 weeks, 2 days. In the 60th percentile. Weighing 4 lbs., 9 ozs. These are her initial measurements. I find out the final results at my doctor's appointment next week. Her heartrate was 141 bpm and my fluid looks good. Something like 15.3 cm of fluid. She is laying head down with her head nestled against my left hip, her butt high up against my right side, and her legs kicking my left side up high. Pat told me he could feel both her little feet there on the left side. We saw her practice breathing on the ultrasound and I've felt her since them through my belly now that I know what to look for. It feels like she is panting. I did start to feel faint and sick during the ultrasound, though. I just can't be on my back that long. But it was fine. I was just happy to hear she is looking so good. When I had a growth ultrasound with Sheldon at 36 weeks he was 4 lbs., 9 ozs. It's great that she's already at that size at 33 weeks. They are estimating her at 6.5 lbs. at birth -- just like me!! It was very fun to see her on the ultrasound.
9th appointment, 33 weeks -- June 17th, 2:10 pm: Had a great appointment with my doctor!! She said the final measurements for the baby were actually 4 lbs., 10 ozs. and she's in the 59th percentile for growth. She's measuring 2 days behind her due date -- so right on, really. It was such a relief to hear everything looks normal and she's growing right on schedule. No follow-up ultrasound or BPP/NST's needed. My BP was 100/50 and I've gained 2 lbs. since my last appointment. Almost 3 lbs, and 2 of those were from my vacation last weekend. Ha! Baby girl's heartbeat was 146 to 149 bpm. I had a nice chat with my doctor about delivering at Fairview Ridges. She said I am a low risk for a C-section at this point. She said that she likes Ridges because the doctor's work 24-hour shifts and feel no need to rush the labors. Apparently that makes a difference in the c-section rate. I trust her, so I'm going to go ahead and deliver there. I realize that my biggest risk for c-section is simply that I'm going to have an epidural. I am raising the risk myself no matter where I deliver. So be it. I would rather be close to home, close to my family, and deliver the same place I delivered with Sheldon. So, that is the plan for now. The doctor is thinking she will be 7 lbs. at birth. I am thinking 6.5 lbs., since I was 6 lbs, 9 ozs., myself. We'll see who is right. Grow, baby, grow!
10th appointment, 36 weeks -- July 3rd, 9:10 am: Everything looks good. I have gained 2 lbs. since my last appointment. My bp was 106/68 and baby's heartbeat was 140 bpm. She did an ultrasound to check on baby and she's still head down. Yeah! Her little chest and butt were on my right side and her legs were poking on my left. She is still very high and hasn't dropped at all. The NP checked me and I'm 0% dilated and 50% effaced. Cervix is soft. So, really no action to speak of. NP did the GBS swab and it came back negative. I've had some mild swelling in my feet and ankles, but my blood pressure looks great. Until next week!!
11th appointment, 37 weeks -- July 11th, 3:10 pm: Baby is still looking great! My bp was 100/62 and I haven't gained any weight since last week. Baby's heartbeat was 146 bpm. She didn't like the doppler, though. She squirmed away from it. NP guessed she is still head down. I measured at 36.5 weeks! Yeah, I caught back up after measuring two weeks behind. I've gained 20 lbs so far according to their records. Right on track. I'm still 50% effaced and 0 dilation. I guess she's in no hurry. Until next week....
12th appointment, 38 weeks -- July 17th, 4:00 pm: Everything looked good today! My bp was 104/60. Baby's heartrate was 142 bpm. I'm measuring at 36.5 weeks still. I had a different doctor today because I couldn't get in with my regular doctor. He had a hard time finding the baby's heartbeat, but then he found it. I asked him for a second opinion on being induced. My doctor wants to induce me if I go past 40 weeks, and that makes me nervous. This doctor agreed that because I have placental lakes, he would also urge induction. He said if I go past 40 weeks, placental functioning naturally declines anyway, and if mine is already "faulty" then there is a great chance for complications and a c-section. But, he also said if they try to induce me and my cervix isn't "ripe" then I'll probably have a c-section anyway. So, it sounds like I better go into labor on my own!!!! So, here's hoping. He said my cervix is firm and I'm still 0% dilated. And he said they'd see me next week cause he didn't see me going into labor anytime soon. O-well. Maybe there will be progress next week!
13th appointment, 39 weeks -- July 25th, 8:30 am: Everything still looks good. BP was 98/60. Baby's heartrate was 146 bpm. Movement is still good. This was my first appointment back with my doctor. She said I'm a fingertip dilated and 70% effaced. Hoping for more progress next week. I'm still measuring at 36.5 weeks. No worries on that, though. Doctor is estimating the baby is 6.5 lbs. right now. Back again next week!
14th appointment, 40 weeks -- July 31st, 3:10 pm: Disappointing appointment today. I haven't made any progress at all. Still fingertip and 70% effaced. She wanted to sweep my membranes today, but unless I was 1 cm, she couldn't do it. She had a hard time finding my cervix as it has moved and it is soft. I guess that is good, but baby really seems pretty happy to stay in there!!! Her heartrate dropped this week to 125 bpm. Doctor said that is normal as the baby reaches full term and the brain is mature. Still, it made me nervous. M bp was 112/72, so high for me, but I think I was stressed trying to get there, too. Doctor said I have to make an appointment for 41 weeks and if I don't go into labor on my own, I will be induced on August 11th. My doctor is actually on call that day, so she would deliver my baby. So, that is cool. And August 11th is my DH and I's 11-year anniversary of our first date. So, maybe it's fate! Still, it was hard not to be disappointed when I thought I'd get to be holding my baby by now. O-well, she will come when she's ready!!
15th appointment, 41 weeks -- August 8th, 2:50 pm: Still no progress. I go in Sunday night to be induced on the 10th Hopefully I will be having a baby on the 11th! My bp was 116/68. Baby's heartbeat was back up to 140 bpm. Overall, the appointment was fine. I mostly filled out paperwork for my induction. I was hoping to go on my own, but this baby has other ideas.
Matilda Jayne was born on August 11th at 9:50 am. She was 6 lbs, 5 ozs. and 19.5" long. She came out screaming her head off and was perfectly healthy, though her skin was dry and peeling from being so overdue. She is now 7 weeks old today on September 29th, and I am still so in love. She's a sweet, laid-back baby who loves to be talked to and is very smiley. She is a perfect gift.
